What’s the story?

Impact Wrestling star Petey Williams recently sat down to have an interview with Ring Rust Radio, where he discussed a set of topics including his infamous Canadian Destroyer move and also on WWE’s Cruiserweight division.

In case you didn’t know…

Petey Williams is a former two-time Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion and is currently in his second tenure with the promotion.

Williams was first signed by Impact in 2004 and was a part of the company till 2009, before departing for the Indies. After wrestling for almost five years in the Independent scene, Williams made his Impact comeback in 2013 but retired from Professional Wrestling all-together in 2014.

However, earlier this year, the former IWA mid-south Heavyweight Champion made his return to the company at Impact Wrestling’s Destination X event and has been a part of it ever since.

The heart of the matter

During his recent interview with Ring Rust Radio, Williams talked about creating the Canadian Destroyer finishing maneuver and also if WWE ever contacted him to join the Cruiserweight division in order to revive it.

If WWE ever contacted him to revive the Cruiserweight division:

Williams admitted that he hasn’t been contacted by Vince McMahon’s company, because when the 205 Live division was created he was still retired, which was possibly the reason why WWE didn’t bother contacting the Impact superstar.

However, Williams stated that he had thought about a lot of other possibilities for his wrestling career but claimed that the reason why he decided to go back to the Impact zone was due to their working schedule, which perfectly suited Williams. He then added by saying that if he had signed with WWE or NXT then he had to move to Florida, which is something he isn’t willing to do.

“The Canadian Destroyer” then said that his main goal is to wrestle in front of people and claimed that as long as he is wrestling, it doesn’t matters which promotion he is performing for. Williams then said that he is happy to be wrestling for Impact right now and feels very comfortable with the promotion.

“I am happy to be with Impact because that’s where I started, and I feel I am at home when I am there. I feel very comfortable. It doesn’t matter to me.”- Petey Williams stated.

On creating the Canadian Destroyer move:

The former ACW Junior Heavyweight Champion says that he is fine with people using his finishing move because they are not stealing the move but just copying it. Williams also said that the Canadian Destroyer move will forever live on in the world of pro wrestling, with other up and coming wrestlers who are using the move.

As of right now, Williams is just proud of the fact that he created something that will stay in the world of pro wrestling forever.

“If you look into the future of wrestling, even when I’m dead years from now, there is still going to be the Canadian Destroyer. It will still be used probably by someone that isn’t even born yet.”- Williams added.

What’s next?

Petey Williams is currently wrestling for Impact Wrestling and judging by his comments it seems like the former two time X-Division Champion is enjoying life with the promotion.

Author’s take

Personally, I am a big fan of Petey Williams and his finishing move, the Canadian Destroyer. On the other hand, I think Williams would have also been a great addition to the 205 Live roster in the WWE because he remains as one of the best X-Division wrestlers to ever step foot into the Impact Zone.
