Importance of Paul Heyman in the Brock Lesnar- Undertaker WrestleMania match

Paul Heyman

Paul Heyman

Of the men who didn’t strap on wrestling boots, no one in WWE engaged, entertained and impacted others like Paul Heyman did in 2013. Heyman transformed a Superstar’s career and played key roles in some of the year’s best feuds and matches, all while using facial expressions that made us laugh, feel and believe.

Combining the attention-grabbing skills of a carnival barker, the ability to irk that a weasel lawyer possesses and some of the best mic work in the company, Heyman maximized his time like no one else. The list of memorable moments he was a part of is long. The list of highly rated matches he was a part of is unparalleled.

Heyman once again has a big part to play in the epic match between his client Brock Lesnar and the phenom, the Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX. The stand out manager has another task up his sleeve to make most of the promos with the tight schedule that both the wrestlers work on. Moreover, neither of the two wrestlers are known for their microphone or promo skills anyway. But that should not be a problem with Paul Heyman being involved in the build up.

Paul Heyman has done it before for Brock Lesnar. At last year’s WrestleMania, Heyman filled the holes in Brock Lesnar’s feud with Triple H. With Lesnar only booked for limited dates, Heyman served as his client’s mouthpiece and the recipient of Triple H’s rage in his absence. To get to Lesnar, Triple H had to first get through his manager’s tricks. Heyman instructed Triple H to sign the contract for a WrestleMania bout, not knowing the stipulation.

He added to Lesnar’s character, as he has for so many years, playing the whiny, conniving puppet master who manages to control the beast.

He would have to do much of the same this time round too, with the match promising to be the best of the night. With the in ring talents of Lesnar and the Deadman, a decent build up would add even more intrigue. It would be hard, however, for him to work on the promos with Undertaker and Lesnar as compared to the likes of Triple H and Punk, the way he did in the past.

But that is not the only reason why Heyman is so important to the feud. A major reason why the match adds a lot of intrigue is because of the fact that storyline wise it is Heyman who wants to avenge for the loss of a client last year at the hands of the Undertaker. The story centers around Heyman rather than Lesnar. Lesnar wants to destroy the Undertaker, but Heyman has the reason to do so. He adds a flavor to the match.

Add to that the very presence which Paul Heyman has during the match. His antics during the bouts are so worth watching and several times Paul Heyman helps elevate feuds through that very aspect of his. No one made a match feel more important. When this guy is in the ring, Heyman’s mannerisms elevated the significance of victory and defeat. Plus, it is pure fun watching him go nuts outside the ropes.

Whether he was shouting instructions to Lesnar or smirking at Brock for hurting a foe, Heyman was entertaining to the point of distraction. The same could be expected of him for this year’s match too.

Thus for all the above reasons- be it the storyline prospective, the ability to make great promos, his presence during the match- Paul Heyman is sure to serve a very important role in the very much anticipated match between the beast incarnate and the Phenom. It is a role he would thrive in and a role which he can handle responsibly. Paul Heyman would be another reason for which WrestleMania 30 is a must watch PPV.
