The series also sheds some light on some major controversies around McMahon’s life, and there were reports that the 79-year-old was not happy with the final output and even tried to “kill” it before its release. Matthew Belloni in his PUCK Newsletter revealed that McMahon did not want the show to be aired and tried to purchase it.

However, Netflix refused to sell its content. According to Dave Meltzer’s report, the former owner of the Stamford-based promotion even tried to get Ari Emanuel to stop the series from being released.

How Vince McMahon's father almost sold WWE to someone else

The Netflix special on Mr. McMahon has a total of six episodes that talk about Vince McMahon’s personal life and how he grew the business, how his career declined, and how he ended up getting tangled up in a major controversy.

While talking about his relationship with his father, in the first episode – “Junior” – Vince McMahon narrated a story of how his father almost ended up selling WWE to Hall of Famer, commentator, and booker, Gorilla Monsoon, who was also a partner at that time.

Speaking about Gorilla Monsoon, Vince said:

"When I joined the company, Gorilla Monsoon was the heir apparent, and I could feel the tension right away. Gorilla Monsoon thinks I am competition, and boy he was right."

Ultimately, McMahon offered to buy his dad’s business, and the latter signed a deal with him in which he promised to pay an unrevealed amount upfront, some of it in three-month installments, and then make a final payment.

If he failed to make all the payments, his father would have kept the company and the amount already paid. His father and the other stakeholders took the deal, convinced McMahon wouldn’t be able to keep his end of the bargain. However, to his father's surprise, Mr. McMahon made all the payments.
