He graduated from Springfield with a degree in exercise physiology, and then later pursued a career in Bodybuilding and also worked as a limousine driver for some time. Cena later started training at Ultimate Pro Wrestling to become a pro-wrestler.

After UPW, Cena went over to Ohio Valley Wrestling WWE’s developmental territories to get more training for the main roster. At OVW, Cena initially used a half-man, half-robot gimmick known as “The Prototype”, but WWE chucked that gimmick.

Cena made his main-roster debut against Kurt Angle on Smackdown in 2002, thus starting the “Ruthless Agression” era in the WWE, and the rest is history.

After becoming the most over thing in pro-wrestling history, Cena alongwith his cousin Marc Predka popularly known in the hip-hop scene as Tha Trademarc, made an album titled “You Can’t See Me”, which debuted at #15 on the US Billboards 200, and #3 on the US Billboards Rap Albums.

John Cena and Nikki Bella

After his divorce from his wife, Elizabeth Huberdeau in May 2012, John Cena started dating WWE Diva Nikki Bella in the November of 2012. John and Nikki have made no attempts at keeping their relationship a secret, as John has appeared on several Red Carpet events, Charity functions, and Conventions with Nikki Bella.

Nikki Bella, before dating John Cena, had dated WWE Superstar, Dolph Ziggler. Bella on an episode of WWE Total DIvas — a reality show focusing on the lives of WWE Divas, revealed that she had been married for three years to her high-school sweetheart, but later got the marriage anulled as she and her husband knew that their marriage was a mistake.

John has also appeared in several episodes of WWE’s “Total Divas”. Nikki’s sister Brie Bella is married to WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan, who faced Cena at SummerSlam 2014 for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Cena, has been very vocal regarding his personal life on Total Divas, and has been seen many a times on several episodes talking about not being interested in getting married. In an Interview with Rolling Stone in April, Cena said the following regarding his disputes with Nikki Bella concerning Kids and Dogs, saying that:

Along the way, he mentions that he was once married and it didn’t end well. “A lot of that was because of my inability to be a good husband, but then Nicole strolled into my life, and that did it,” he says. He and his latest love do have issues, however, mainly revolving around marriage, kids, their dog Winston, and his love of his job. “Look,” he says, “I know I cannot handle raising a child. It’s like with the dog.
My biggest thing to Nicole about the dog was: Love dogs, but I can’t contribute to taking care of one. I don’t have the time. And just because everyone else is happy with children doesn’t mean that’s how I have to live. I’ve been upfront about this. I just have things I need to get done. It’s not negotiable. We’ve been to therapy over it. I don’t think it will ever be over with. I’m stubborn as fuck and extremely selfish as well. I don’t want kids, I don’t want marriage. That’s me just saying, ‘Hey, this is my life and this is how I’m going to live.'”

John Cena’s contract with the WWE in 2014-15 saw him earn $5 million, which is $1.5 million more than the amount he had earned in 2013. Cena’s contract also includes a downside guarantee deal, which establishes the least amount of money he can earn that year. The deal is worth $3 million and along with that Cena also gets his own bus for tours, 6% of merchandise sales, and first class travel.

Cena has several endorsements deal with brands like Gold’s Gym, Gilette, Subway and many more, which enable him to earn an additional $5 million per year. To safeguard his future, Cena has made several investments in vintage cars and properties.

Cena’s current net worth amounts to $35 million. There isn’t any proper breakdown available as of this moment for his current net worth, however we do know that his salary for this year is something around $2,750,000. But, Cena has a much lesser net worth compared to his Wrestlemania 28 and 29 opponent, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson whose net worth for 2016 is $125 million, as he has more financially-successful movies under his belt, and also earns a lot from the limited WWE appereances he does.

John Cena vs. The Undertaker

After Cena made his T.V. debut, The Undertaker in a backstage segment congratulated Cena for his debut. A year later Cena faced The Undertaker at Vengeance in what would be the only match ever contested between the two. Rumours are now going around that John Cena might face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania, and that even Vince McMahon is in on the idea of a Taker vs. Cena match. But, as I said they’re just rumours and considering Taker’s age and his willingness to perform again may affect the possibility of the match.

John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

In 2003, after Wrestlemania 19, Cena who was then a part of the Smackdown roster started a chasing the WWE Championship, which was being held by Brock Lesnar. Cena had won a number one contender’s tournament allowing him to face Lesnar at Backlash. But, Cena unfortunately, lost to Lesnar.

A few years down the line after accepting his loss to The Rock on the RAW after Wrestlemania 28, Cena invited The Rock to the ring to congratulate him. Cena’s call was instead answered by Brock Lesnar, who made his comeback to the company after 8 years. This led to a match a between the two Superstars at Extreme Rules which Cena won.

They both feuded again 2 years later for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which Lesnar won from Cena at SummerSlam. Cena invoked his rematch clause for the title, and a match was set for Night of Champions PPV, but he lost again because of outside interference by Seth Rollins. Again, a few months down the line Cena faced both Lesnar and Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Royal Rumble, but unfortunately, Cena lost this time as well.
