Kane, Punk and more: Top 5 WWE Superstars who have never won the Royal Rumble

Royal Rumble 2014

Since its inception in 1989, Royal Rumble has gave WWE some of its best superstars till date, that includes the likes of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan. The Rumble winners have always created history and have been on the top of the WWE. Unfortunately, there are some superstars and legends who have achieved everything except for a Rumble victory.

Honorable Mention: Kurt Angle ( 2002 runner-up; 3 appearances)

5. “Macho Man” Randy Savage

Macho Man

Randy Savage

Macho Man was an important figure in the early Rumbles, appearing consecutively in the first six of them from 1989 to 1994. Despite being a top superstar, Macho Man could never win the Rumble, coming close two times; came 4th in 1992 and 2nd in 1993. As it is said, he was the first wrestler who used the Rumble match to begin or enhance his rivalry, this became common later on. He was also the first wrestler who failed to show when his number was called in 1991. Macho Man accomplished everything in the WWF except for winning the Royal Rumble, unfortunately.

4. Big Show

Big Show

Big Show

Big Show has been a Rumble runner-up twice (2000 and 2004). Apart of the 2006 Rumble (#6), Show has always entered the Rumble after #21, but he could never capitalize. He is the only #30 to eliminate #1, he entered twice at #30 and both times he eliminated the #1 entry (Rey Mysterio ’09 and The Miz ’12). At this stage, it doesn’t look like he’ll get to win the Rumble, but he will always be one of the best Rumble participants.

3. CM Punk

CM Punk

CM Punk

Punk participated in every Rumble from 2007-2011 and in these 5 appearances his average Rumble time is an astonishing 23 minutes, 48 seconds. Punk has always eliminated at least one other superstar in all his 5 appearances. He has recorded a total of 14 eliminations, with 7 of them coming in his last appearance (2011) where he entered at #1. These statistics back Punk to win the 2014 Royal Rumble, as he is the only current top superstar who hasn’t tasted Rumble glory.

2. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho

The first ever Undisputed Champion may be the best in the world at what he does, but he hasn’t been able to win a Rumble, although he came very close in 2012. Jericho has been a part of 8 Rumbles, and has a combined time of over 3 hours, making him the only superstar to cross the 3-hour mark but never been able to win the Rumble. With nearly every accomplishment to his name, Jericho only needs a Rumble win to completely glorify his WWE career. He might make a surprise entry in the 2014 Rumble.

1. Kane

Kane

Kane holds the record for most Rumble appearances: 14 times (16 for Glenn Jacobs), most consecutive appearances (1999-2011) and most eliminations in a single Rumble (11 in 2001). Despite all these achievements, Kane has never won the Rumble, making him the most unfortunate Rumble entrant ever. Kane has been the most destructive Rumble entrant ever, but has no win to his name that could justify his abilities. Kane hasn’t got much years left to wrestle, maybe another Rumble, but it looks like he will go down in the books as the most unlucky Rumble entrant ever.
