35-year-old recently injured WWE SmackDown star undergoes successful surgery

A recently injured WWE SmackDown star has undergone successful surgery for a torn ACL.

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez defended the Women's Tag Team Championships against Damage CTRL's Bayley and Dakota Kai on a recent edition of SmackDown. The match turned out to be disastrous, as the two superstars got injured. Liv Morgan suffered a shoulder injury during the bout, and Dakota Kai tore her ACL.

Following the match, Morgan and Rodriguez vacated the Women's Tag Team Championships, and a Fatal 4-Way tag team match has been announced for the next week's episode of WWE RAW to determine the new champions. It was revealed during last night's edition of RAW that Shotzi is Raquel's new tag team partner, and the duo will be battling Bayley & IYO SKY, Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville, and Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler for the vacant titles next week.

Earlier today, Dakota Kai took to her Instagram stories to upload a photo of her knee in a brace, indicating that she had undergone surgery successfully. The 35-year-old will be out of action for roughly six to nine months due to the injury.

Dakota Kai recently disclosed that WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels always supported her and even compared her to himself.

Damage CTRL made their debut at last year's WWE SummerSlam in Nashville. The heel trio dominated the women's division on RAW. The group went on to capture the Women's Tag Team Championships but had fallen on hard times as of late. Bayley and IYO SKY will look to get Damage CTRL back on track in the Fatal 4-Way for the vacant Women's Tag Team Championships next week.

Speaking with Emily Mae of Sportskeeda Wrestling in a recent exclusive interview, Dakota praised Shawn Michaels for the advice he gave her and noted that the legend compared himself to her.

"He's awesome. When I was in NXT, he was the guy we used to look for advice, and he had my back a lot, too. He always supported me, and he kind of compared me to him in terms of character, like a guy bumping around a crazy person. I think he saw me in him when he was younger. He's been a great support," said Dakota Kai. [5:18 - 5:39]

Damage CTRL was selected by SmackDown during this year's WWE Draft. Only time will tell if the heel faction will be able to get back on track or if the injury to Kai ultimately drives IYO and Bayley farther apart.
