Many former WWE stars have been known to reverse retirement decisions years after hanging up their wrestling boots. In a recent interview, Sabu revealed he wants to wrestle one final match in 2024.

Sabu is best known for his ECW run in the 1990s and his short WWE stint between 2006 and 2007. The 59-year-old retired from in-ring competition in 2021 due to a back injury, but he now has his sights set on a return.

On Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, the ECW icon explained why he wants to step into the ring once again:

"I'm actually hopefully setting up for my final match," Sabu said. "I wanna do maybe a final match maybe in July or later. A real final match. Just one more pay-off." [1:01:30 – 1:01:45]

Sabu has not wrestled since 2021. Shortly after his last match, the high-flyer admitted he was "not doing real good" physically. At the time, he only wanted to focus on personal appearances instead of wrestling.

Sabu would like to face a WWE Hall of Famer

Rob Van Dam (RVD) feuded with Sabu in ECW. The former rivals also joined forces to win the company's tag titles twice.

Asked about a potential final opponent, Sabu said he wants to face RVD in a regular singles match:

"It's probably gonna be Van Dam. I heard Van Dam say something about he wanted to have a Barbed Wire match. His last match, my last match. Yeah, whatever, let's do it. But I'd rather just wrestle him in a regular match. I wanna have one of my better matches. A Barbed Wire match, that's a gimmick. I don't really want a gimmick. The gimmick is my final match. That's the gimmick." [1:02:02 – 1:02:22]

Van Dam previously said he would like to see Sabu inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame one day. However, he believes an induction will only happen if his legendary opponent stops saying negative things about the company in interviews.
