Gunther is preparing for a world title defense against Damian Priest at WWE Survivor Series WarGames. Vince Russo spoke about the reigning champion's future and potential opponents, including a John Cena match.

Gunther defeated Priest at SummerSlam to become the World Heavyweight Champion, and considering his booking, many believe the Ring General could score another victory over the Archer of Infamy.

All eyes will then be on WWE's next opponent for Gunther as the company begins a new era on Netflix. During the latest Legion of RAW episode, Vince Russo and Dr. Chris Featherstone briefly discussed the options for Gunther after Survivor Series. While a returning Drew McIntyre could be a viable opponent, Vince Russo felt a John Cena could have a high-profile title showdown against the Imperium leader after his comeback.

The former United States Champion will soon return to WWE TV to begin his retirement tour, and a clash against Gunther seems like a no-brainer for Triple H to book in 2025.

"Well, they've got Cena coming back, right? You've got Drew coming back, right? When is Drew coming back? [...] Yeah, I mean, do you put Drew in there with Priest? Do you put Gunther in there with Cena? I mean, they've got guys coming back," Russo explained. [From 12:45 onwards]

Gunther undoubtedly needs fresh adversaries to keep his title reign fresh and there might not be a bigger name to wrestle than John Cena once the Franchise Player is back in the ring.
