Damian Priest says he was forced to retire from wrestling; tells Cody Rhodes he was homeless and why he stopped for a year

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest has now opened up saying he was forced to retire from wrestling. He could not compete for an entire year.

Damian Priest was on Cody Rhodes' What Do You Want To Talk About? podcast. There he talked about how he had to retire from wrestling once because he could not afford new gear when he was robbed while living in New Jersey during the time he was competing in the indies. He could not even afford an apartment at the time and had to get a job so that he could buy new gear and start wrestling again. That took a whole year.

"My gear got stolen out of my car when I lived in Jersey in the indies. And I had to retire from wrestling because I couldn't afford new gear. Until I got a job that I could afford to buy another pair of gear a year later. And afford an apartment, and then I started wrestling again." (9:51 - 10:14)

Cody Rhodes then went on to ask why Priest did not have his gear on him and how it ended up getting stolen. Priest's answer made Rhodes feel bad, as he revealed that he was homeless at the time. He was living out of his car and crashing at different people's places at the time.

"Because I was homeless." (10:18 - 10:20)

Damian Priest has reason to celebrate right now

The star, however, has reason to celebrate now. Damian Priest has been added to the Bronx Walk of Fame. After a period where he was homeless, living out of his car in Jersey, and wrestling where he could, he made it to WWE and became the star that he is today, being celebrated by the entire city as a result.

Now, the star is getting ready for his next feud. Fans will have to wait and see what happens heading into SummerSlam.
