Drew McIntyre has been one of the most interesting wrestlers in recent years. He has caught the attention of the fans with his obsession of winning the World Title in front of a live crowd. However, ten years ago, the situation was very different. McIntyre took to his social media account to look back at the time he was initially released from WWE.

The Scottish Warrior is all set to challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship this weekend. The match will mark Priest's second title defense on WWE TV since winning the championship from Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania XL.

Currently, McIntyre finds himself in the main event picture more often than not. However, ten years ago, he wasn't seen as one of the top guys in the promotion. McIntyre took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share a note looking back at the time when he was released from WWE ten years ago.

"June 12, 2014: Brodus Clay, Evan Bourne, Teddy Long, Curt Hawkins and other WWE Superstars released. I didn't even make the headline. 10 years later I am the headline."

When did Drew McIntyre win his first WWE Championship?

Drew McIntyre won the Royal Rumble in 2020 by eliminating Roman Reigns in the end. During the match, he eliminated then-WWE Champion Brock Lesnar as well. In the buildup to WrestleMania 36, McIntyre decided that he would challenge Lesnar for the gold.

At WrestleMania 36, The Scottish Warrior beat Brock Lesnar to win his first WWE Title. Unfortunately for him, 'Mania that year took place in the Performance Center without fans in the audience due to COVID-19. Since then, he has won the World Heavyweight Championship in front of a packed stadium at WrestleMania XL. However, his reign lasted less than six minutes as Damian Priest, taking advantage of an assault by CM Punk on McIntyre, cashed in his MITB contract to clinch the title away from him.
