Former champion's WWE contract has now officially expired

WWE released a number of talents this year, but there were a select few who were informed that their contracts would not be renewed. That list included Sonya Deville, Shotzi, R-Truth, and Carlito.

This means that they would remain employed by WWE until the expiration of their contracts. Fightful Select also confirmed that Shotzi is now a free agent since her contract has officially expired, and she has been announced for a number of upcoming events.

Shotzi worked in the developmental brand in recent years as a member of Chemical X, and yet was still a name that the company opted to cut, making her departure one of the surprising ones announced earlier this year. The former NXT Women's Tag Team Champion was initially supposed to be part of the Women's Royal Rumble Match before later being replaced by Alexa Bliss.

Shotzi has had a lot of interest since her release and has already been advertised for MLW, Starrcast, and All In weekend, which means that she should be quite busy with her new free agent status.

A number of former WWE stars are now free agents

Shotzi isn't the only free agent this month, as all of the NXT stars who were released on May 2 will be considered free agents now after sitting out their 30-day non-compete clause.

Names like Eddy Thorpe, Gigi Dolin, Jakara Jackson, Javier Bernal, and Joe Coffey were amongst the names exiting the company. Braun Strowman, Shayna Baszler, Kayden Carter, and Katana Chance are believed to have been on main roster contracts, which means that they would have to sit out 90 days instead of the 30 for the stars of the developmental brand.

It will be interesting to see if names like Strowman or Baszler head over to any promotions that are considered competition for WWE.
