A former WWE Champion recently returned to the company as a special guest at ringside on SmackDown last Friday. Rob Van Dam appeared on television and reportedly filmed interviews backstage for a future project.

RVD is one of several legends shown on camera this past Friday for the blue brand's return to the USA Network. He was joined by Vickie Guerrero, Ron Simmons, and Teddy Long, who all appeared at ringside as fans.

Speaking on a recent episode of his 1 of a Kind podcast, Van Dam explained that he was invited by the company to make an appearance on short notice. He also revealed that he filmed interviews alongside other legends for a future project, possibly for Netflix.

"It was one day notice to fly out. Wednesday, 'Sorry about the short notice. You have to leave tomorrow. Are you available on Friday?' I was... I did some interviews for some... I don't know if it's going to be a DVD. I think it might be a Netflix release. I'm not really sure. We all did. We all took turns doing interviews," Van Dam said. [H/T: Fightful]

Friday's appearance was Rob Van Dam's first since the 2023 WWE Draft when he announced the picks on RAW and SmackDown. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021. However, RVD is still an active talent and competes in various promotions on the independent scene.

WWE is coming to Netflix in 2025

Netflix announced in January 2024 that they are going to be the new home of RAW starting in 2025. The subscription service giant reportedly signed a 10-year, $5 billion deal to get the rights for the company's flagship show in the United States.

"This deal is transformative. It marries the can’t-miss WWE product with Netflix's extraordinary global reach and locks in significant and predictable economics for many years. Our partnership fundamentally alters and strengthens the media landscape, dramatically expands the reach of WWE, and brings weekly live appointment viewing to Netflix," TKO president Mark Shapiro said in a statement via Netflix.

In addition to RAW, other shows such as SmackDown, NXT, and all the premium live events will be aired live on the platform for international subscribers. It's an amazing deal that would bring pro wrestling to more viewers around the world.
