WWE News: Goldberg clarifies comments on being “miserable”

Goldberg had some choice words for the fans who took his words out of context

What’s the story?

Goldberg’s comments about being “miserable” during his current run with the WWE took the internet by storm as countless articles circulated his comments from the E&C Pod of Awesomeness last week.

Goldberg took to Twitter and posted a link to a tmi.me message that clarifies the meaning of his comments.

In case you didn’t know...

Goldberg appeared on the debut episode of the E&C Pod of Awesomeness where he talked with Edge and Christian about his current run with the company, his reign as the Universal Champion, the differences in the locker room since the Attitude Era, and many other things.

The heart of the matter

During the podcast, Goldberg stated that the training he had to endure was the source of his misery, but that it was pushing through it because of his family.

“I'll be honest, I'm miserable, I'm absolutely miserable. But my family's having fun, man. And so, every single thing, every training session, every ART massage that makes me cry, every muay thai session, it's all worth it, man.

It's just worth it. And, hey, at the end of the day, if I want to smile, I'll buy a car. That's how I'm happy. I did, I bought one on the way back from [Survivor Series in] Toronto because I worked my ass off.”

The following is the message he posted on tmi.me via Twitter to explain that he was miserable physically, but enjoyed the how he was being booked compared to his run in 2003-2004.

“*NEWS FLASH* Since this is chapping my ass let's get the record straight.....this @wwe run, experience is frikin' awesome.... honored, humbled, truly appreciative and then some.

I'M MISERABLE PHYSICALLY BECAUSE IT TAKES A MONUMENTAL EFFORT, BOTH TRAINING AND EATING, TO TRY AND BE CLOSE TO WHAT PEOPLE REMEMBER....

I STRIVE TO BE THE BEST..... RESULTS ARE GREAT BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN THERE ARE NO BUMPS ALONG THE WAY.”

Here are the Tweets that Goldberg posted to clarify his previous statement:

Goldberg would follow that message with another one indicating that he would like to see this message circulated as much as the first.

What’s next?

The have been rumours circulating that both the WWE and Goldberg would be open to working more dates and this message basically confirms that it could happen.

There are several wrestlers that fans have been interested in seeing the WCW legend compete against and this may come to pass if Goldberg stays with the company after WrestleMania 33.

Author’s take

While Goldberg did use the words miserable to describe his current run, he was clearly only discussing it in the physical context.

Professional wrestlers generally have to endure a lot of training and dieting to maintain their physiques and conditioning so it’s understandable how Goldberg must be feeling; especially considering the fact that he has been away from professional wrestling for 13 years.

His comments can be heard clearly and concisely on the E&C Pod of Awesomeness and he was clearly referring to the training he does every day. With that clarified, hopefully, fans can give the match a chance at WrestleMania 33 and at least see where this goes.
