Hulk Hogan is considered by many to be one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time. In an exclusive interview, The Hulkster revealed how he once thought Bill Goldberg could become wrestling's next Hulk Hogan-esque megastar.

Hogan was on the WCW roster when Goldberg made his debut in 1997. The former football player won 173 consecutive matches, which included a famous WCW title victory over Hogan on Nitro. His winning streak finally ended in controversial fashion against Kevin Nash at Starrcade 1998.

Reflecting on that time, Hogan told Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter that he had high hopes for the four-time world champion:

"You could say, 'Well, you know, Goldberg should have never been beat. He was an attraction.' From the movie industry to the entertainment industry, a lot of Jewish people were like probably upset because this was the first time we ever had a 300-pound T-Rex killer. He was the second coming of Hulk Hogan as far as an attraction went." [2:20 – 2:52]

Hulk Hogan highlights one mistake WCW made with Goldberg

Between 1984 and 1988, Hulk Hogan was WWE's top babyface when he held the world title for 1,474 days before losing it to Andre the Giant.

Looking back, Hogan thinks WCW's decision-makers should have had more faith in Goldberg as a fan-favorite world champion:

"It's almost like a mid-card mentality that you need to have the babyface chase the belt. That's not attraction mentality. That's standard rasslin' mentality." [2:55 – 3:09]

Goldberg's only WCW World Heavyweight Championship reign lasted 174 days between July 6, 1998, and December 27, 1998. He also held the Universal Championship twice and World Heavyweight Championship once in WWE.
