Ivar's tag team partner Erik's injury in 2023 was a blessing in disguise for the Viking Raiders star, who went on to have a noteworthy singles run on WWE RAW. Unfortunately for him, injuries began to pile up and he was forced to take time off after his match against NXT North American Champion, Oba Femi, at NXT Spring Breakin' 2024 on April 30.
Ivar suffered a neck injury during the NXT bout, which was the straw that broke the camel's back. It was announced in May that the 40-year-old had undergone spinal surgery.
With rumblings about him wrestling on borrowed time, many were afraid that the current injury would probably come in the way of the WWE Superstar's in-ring career. However, taking to X (fka Twitter), Ivar assured fans that was not the case, and that he would find a way to return from his "neck situation".
He was reacting to a moment during the pandemic when WWE was in the "ThunderDome Era," where Ivar was temporarily paralyzed. This incident occurred in September 2020. However, he returned to the ring after undergoing successful double fusion surgery, seven months later.

"And as I work hard to return from my CURRENT neck situation I wanted to take the time and thank every single one of you out there who is cheering me and my health on! I promise I will return! Thank you all for your love and support!" he wrote.

One of Ivar's last opponents before his injury in April was Sami Zayn. The two wrestled on the March 4 episode of RAW. The Underdog From the Underground prevailed and subsequently went on to win an Intercontinental Championship number-one contender's match. At WrestleMania XL, Zayn dethroned Gunther.
Reported plans for Sami Zayn vs. World Heavyweight Champion Gunther on WWE RAW
Months have passed since Sami Zayn ended Gunther's Intercontinental Championship reign at 666 days. At SummerSlam, The Ring General was coronated as the World Heavyweight Champion, while Zayn dropped his belt to Bron Breakker.
Last week, Zayn interrupted Gunther as the latter was basking in the glory of defeating Randy Orton at Bash in Berlin. Although the former Intercontinental Champion issued a challenge, The Ring General declined.
A new report by PWInsider has disclosed that WWE Hall of Famer, Bret 'The Hitman' Hart, could join World Heavyweight Champion Gunther and Sami Zayn in their ongoing storyline after Zayn mentioned the legend last week.
The upcoming episode of RAW will emanate from The Hitman's hometown of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and he is set to make an appearance.
