Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently shared his thoughts on R-Truth's promo this week. The star made his surprise return at Money in the Bank.
Truth cut a powerful promo this week while standing on the announcers table. The veteran wrestler went on to cut off his hair, symbolic of shedding his old personality and donning a new character. He announced that Ron Killings had arrived and asked everyone to put some respect on his name.
This week on Sportskeeda's Legion of RAW, Vince Russo pointed out that R-Truth should have addressed the mystery behind his release. He felt the star should have spoken about how WWE didn't want to renew his contract because of his age. The veteran writer felt that casual fans would relate to that story arc better, fueling interest in the angle.
"Let's look at Truth tonight. The whole speech on top of the table. Bro, if I'm a casual fan, I don't know what he's talking about. So, Truth, why don't you just say, 'They weren't going to renew my contract because I'm 53 years old.' Say now, oh I understand ageism, 53, by the fact that he's given 53, people are saying, 'Holy cr*p, he's 53.' Now, all of a sudden, they're behind Truth because he's 53. But the story he told, if I'm a casual fan who is not online, I don't know what he's talking about." [From 10:45 onwards]
It will be interesting to see how WWE creative handles this new gimmick for R-Truth and how he is booked in the coming weeks.
