The night after Backlash, Alexa Bliss pinned Nikki Bella in a Fatal-5-Way match to be crowned the Number One Contender for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. She was scheduled to face Becky Lynch at No Mercy for the Championship.
However, a day before the event it was heavily rumoured that Becky Lynch would not be competing due to an undisclosed injury.
On the day of No Mercy, Smackdown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan told Alexa Bliss that Becky would not be competing due to an undisclosed injury and that Alexa would get her contractually obligated Championship match on November 8th on Smackdown Live in Glasgow, Scotland.
It is presumed that that will be the date Becky Lynch will return, or return to in-ring action at the very least. Despite being without an opponent, Shane and Bryan made sure she had something to do that night, so Naomi replaced Becky Lynch, and in a surprise move, actually defeated the number one contender Alexa.
AllWrestlingNews stated that the reason behind Naomi going over Alexa was to potentially set up a Triple Threat match between Becky, Naomi, and Alexa, and it could even happen as soon as the November 8th episode.
It is possible that Alexa may still get her one-on-one match at Survivor Series, which is 12 days after the Glasgow Smackdown Live show. Or it could even be possible that the Triple Threat is on the Survivor Series card. Last night on Talking Smack after No Mercy, Daniel Bryan teased the idea of putting Naomi into the title picture.
If this is the case, then that means Alexa Bliss will be feuding with Naomi starting from now until Becky Lynch’s return. This is beneficial for Naomi as she was not in any active program prior to No Mercy. She and Natalya were without feuds.
It would have made sense to have them feud, since Becky was feuding with Alexa and Nikki Bella, was feuding with Carmella. However, both were instead just sidekicks to Nikki Bella and Carmella respectively in their feud. Where it leaves Natalya, it is not clear.
Eva Marie is still filming a movie with Nicholas Cage, so it is unclear as to when she will come back. Even when she does, it is unlikely Natalya will feud with her as heel vs heel feuds are quite rare.
