WWE News: Roman Reigns comments on a possible heel turn

Roman Reigns talks to Chris Jericho about the possibility of turning heel

What’s the story?

Roman Reigns is arguably the most controversial Superstar in the WWE today. Reigns, much like John Cena, gets a mixed reaction wherever he goes but is mostly drowned by boos.

Given the negative reaction that Reigns draws from the majority of the crowd, many have called for the leader of ‘The Roman Empire’ to turn heel. Reigns got the opportunity to respond to that during a recent interview with fellow WWE Superstar Chris Jericho on the Talk Is Jericho podcast.

In case you didn’t know...

Reigns will be taking on The Undertaker this weekend (Sunday, April 2, 2017) in the biggest match of his career. The two have been embroiled in a rivalry since their encounter at the Royal Rumble this past January, and could possibly be closing out the show from Orlando, Florida this weekend.

The heart of the matter:

Here’s what Reigns had to say to Jericho about the possibility of turning heel:

"The thing is, if I turn heel, what am I gonna become? Everything that's been done? Why not just be me? No one's ever been like me. This is uncharted territory. It can be anything I want it to be.

So why put myself on one side of it? Why not just dabble? Why not have the full range? Do whatever I want? That's how I feel. I'm the one writing this at this point now.

We're in the position [where] we can do anything we want as long [as] they make noise. As long as they're coming, as long as they're making noise. Have fun, man! Boo the shit out of me!

If it's making you cooler with this dude and that dude next to you and y'all are having a great night? Please, say all you want to me. I'm a grown man. You're not gonna hurt my feelings. My wife is not gonna think any differently of me."

What’s next?

Again, much like John Cena, it seems like Reigns and the WWE will stick to their guns and keep the former Shield member as a top face in the company.

While he may have a lot of newfound success if he was indeed to take a trip over to the dark side, it should be interesting to see how his career shapes moving forward while maintaining his status as one of the most hated babyfaces we’ve seen in recent memory.

Author’s take:

Much respect to Reigns for deciding to take a different stance on things and to continue forward with what he is doing now. While the fans may hate him, he is still one of the top merchandise sellers for full-timers on the roster today, so he must be doing something right.

Fans today can never be made happy regardless of what the WWE decides to do, so if Reigns did decide to make the heel turn, the complaints from the WWE Universe would continue to come through the floodgates.
