Sami Zayn was told on RAW before his contract signing that he won't be able to beat Gunther. With a strong mentality and head of steel, Zayn would respond to those claims during the signing.

This week saw Gunther and Sami Zayn make their WrestleMania 40 match official. The champ wasn't particularly impressed by his challenger but called their WrestleMania bout the biggest match in the history of the Intercontinental Championship.

In response to Chad Gable telling him he couldn't beat Gunther, Sami Zayn said that people have doubted him all the time - from making it to WWE in the first place to doubts over his ability to win titles.

It's interesting to see Chad Gable's role in this story. He told Sami backstage that the Intercontinental title match meant much more to him, but the former Intercontinental Champion disagreed.

Sami asked him why he was so upset, and it took a little while for the 38-year-old to open up. However, Zayn responded that even though he has a family and a kid at home who cries when he loses,

Later backstage, Sami was furious and confronted Chad Gable for his comments. Gable said that Gunther is on a different level and that the window of opportunity Sami usually uses to win won't be there.

He then told Sami that he couldn't beat Gunther if he didn't change his mentality.
