WWE News: WrestleMania 33 sets Citrus Bowl stadium attendance record

It was a beautiful site under the Florida skies!

What's the story?

As announced by The New Day last night, WrestleMania 33 broke the attendance record for the Camping World Stadium.

In case you didn't know:

Several television scenes, as well as scenes from motion picture films, have been shot inside the Florida Citrus Bowl.

For those old enough to recall, the hit TV show “Coach” filmed multiple scenes in and around the stadium. Also, the 1998 film Water Boy, starring Adam Sandler, filmed a lot of their scenes inside the stadium as well.

The heart of the matter:

Citrus Bowl Stadium attendance records were once again set by WWE as WrestleMania 33 drew 75,245 fans for the event. The previous venue attendance record was also set by WWE when WrestleMania XXIV had set the record at 74,635 fans.

It's also worth noting that fans from all 50 states, as well as 62 different countries, made the trek to Orlando to attend WrestleMania 33.

What's next?

Next year, the stars and staff of WWE return to the Big Easy as WrestleMania 34 will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The last time WrestleMania was hosted by the city of New Orleans was a few years ago when WrestleMania 30 took over the Superdome for a historical night of WWE action.

Author’s take:

WrestleMania has grown into something far greater than what the founders ever envisioned. What started off as nothing more than an alternative to NWA’s upstart event known as Starrcade, has grown into a global juggernaut, bigger than any wrestling event ever thought of.

As the years pass and ‘Mania grows, it will be exciting to see what Vince McMahon and his staff can come up with next. This year was proof that just because the event may not seem all that attractive on paper, doesn't mean they can't pull off a miracle.

WrestleMania is much more than an annual wrestling event, it is a worldwide phenomenon.
