Wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell recently discussed WWE's missed opportunities with Baron Corbin. The 40-year-old star was released from the Stamford-based company with his contract not being extended.
Corbin has a stellar career with WWE spanning over a decade. He won the United States Championship as well as the NXT Tag Team Championship. He also had major wins in the Men's Money in the Bank, Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, King of the Ring, and he even retired Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 35.
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk podcast, Mantell mentioned that Bum-a*s Corbin was his favorite gimmick of the 40-year-old star. The veteran detailed that WWE gave up too soon on that character. He felt that The Lone Wolf had started going downhill even back when Vince McMahon was in control of the creative. Mantell claimed that Mr. McMahon was to blame for not handling Baron Corbin better as the Chairman and CEO.
"That's when I liked him the best...He had character and he had range. He'd go out there and he'd lose and he'd get upset. They could've taken that a lot further. But, a lot of his downhill moves was there when Vince was there, right? I think that's got a lot to do with it too. We can't blame anybody else. We gotta blame somebody. So, blame Vince, he's blamed for everything else. So, shouldn't be a big surprise for him," Dutch Mantell said. [8:42 - 9:30]
