A respected veteran once told Paul Heyman that WWE would ruin Brock Lesnar. The veteran, former WWE commentator Taz, saw big things in Lesnar's future.
Back in 2002, The Beast Incarnate made his main roster debut and was managed by Heyman. It didn't take long for him to become the most popular star on the main roster. By the end of SummerSlam 2002, Lesnar was the youngest WWE Champion in history.
In a new interview on SHAK Wrestling, Paul Heyman revealed that Taz once told him that WWE was going to ruin Brock Lesnar's on-screen character. Check out what Heyman said:
"Taz understood that there had to be a new vision applied to Brock Lesnar. It can't just be the old 'stand in the middle of the ring and don't do nothing.' So he brought him to me, and he said, 'They're going to ruin him.' 'No, no, they're not.'" [26:25-26:45]
Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman's first run together
Lesnar spent several months feuding with WWE's biggest babyfaces and eventually defeated The Rock at SummerSlam 2002 to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. He then defeated The Undertaker in a SmackDown feud to cement himself as the most dominant entity on the blue brand.
Lesnar then kicked off a feud with Big Show on the Road to Survivor Series 2002. At the event, the two powerhouses competed in a WWE title match. In a shocking twist, Heyman turned on Lesnar in the final moments of the bout and helped Big Show become the new WWE Champion.
Lesnar's massive push didn't stop here, though. He went on to win the 2003 Royal Rumble match. At WrestleMania XIX, he recaptured the WWE title by defeating Kurt Angle.
