WWE Universe convinced there is only one man to retire Roman Reigns and send him packing

Is there an impending WWE retirement awaiting The Tribal Chief?
Is there an impending WWE retirement awaiting The Tribal Chief?

There is a section of the viewers wondering when The Tribal Chief's reign as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion will come to an end.

With Cody Rhodes, Solo Sikoa, and even Randy Orton thrown into the conversation as potential names to end the streak of Roman Reigns, a few wrestlers on the roster could legitimately stand up to the latter and dethrone him. Perhaps the biggest name of them all today is the WWE Intercontinental Champion, Gunther.

But The Ring General is in "no rush" to contend for The Tribal Chief's titles, as the former has a prestigious belt of his own to defend. Gunther's reign is inching close to becoming the longest in the company's history after each passing day, surpassing Honky Tonk Man's record.

One fan pointed out the following:

During WrestleMania 39 weekend, however, the Austrian megastar made a bold statement. He proclaimed that he would remain the WWE Intercontinental Champion and score the main event spot at WrestleMania 40.

His answer was about potentially repeating history with Gunther in the position of Ultimate Warrior (then-IC champion) at WrestleMania VI, wrestling then-WWF Champion Hulk Hogan:

"Coming back to protecting and restoring [the IC title], if I want to do that on the biggest scale possible and have the biggest impact possible with that, my goal needs to be to be in the most prominent spot of WrestleMania," Gunther said. "I'm gonna stay focused, and I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing. I'm fairly confident in my skill. So, we will see how it plays out over the next year."

It was reported earlier this week that Gunther is "earmarked" for a Royal Rumble win next year. While plans can always change between now and the Road to WrestleMania 40, Roman Reigns vs. Gunther is a definitive blockbuster main event that WWE can bank on for next year's Show of Shows. The bout can even be sold as a "Streak vs. Streak" contest.

For now, Gunther is scheduled to defend his title against Mustafa Ali at Night of Champions, while Roman Reigns will not be defending his two world titles.

However, The Head of the Table will look to bring back the Undisputed Tag Team Championships to The Bloodline, as he will join Solo Sikoa in Saudi Arabia to end the relatively fresh reign of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

Gunther is impressed by The Tribal Chief's reign as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion

Since August 2020, Roman Reigns has been the WWE Universal Champion, ending the short reign of "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt. Since then, he has defeated every major star that has come his way. Reigns even captured the WWE Championship from Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38.

Gunther on The Tribal Chief's title reign, which will reach the 1,000-day mark on the day of Night of Champions:

"It's impressive. Yeah, I think that pretty much sums it up because it's a situation that never has been there in that way. And it's continuing. So it's gonna be interesting to see where it goes," said Gunther.
