NJPW News: Chris Jericho hypes up his match against Kenny Omega
What’s the story?
Earlier today, Kenny Omega successfully defended his IWGP United States Championship against Trent Berretta at NJPW’s Power Struggle event.
Following his match against Berretta, “The Cleaner” was challenged by former WWE Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12, which was accepted by Omega.
Jericho then took to social media to respond to his match against Omega at the Tokyo Dome next year.
In case you didn’t know…
Both Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega have been firing shots at each other and mocking each other on Twitter for the past few weeks.
The Bullet Club leader, earlier today, defended his IWGP US Heavyweight Title against Trent Berretta in a brutal match at NJPW: Power Struggle. After the match, Omega cut a promo on the NJPW roster saying that he has defeated everyone in the company and there is no one left for him to face.
Moments after his promo, Omega was interrupted by non-other former six-time WWE World Champion Chris Jericho, who challenged The Elite member to a match at the Dome in January. Kenny accepted the challenge and thus the match between the two men was confirmed.
The heart of the matter
After challenging Kenny Omega to a match at the Wrestle Kingdom 12 show, Chris Jericho posted on his official Instagram and Twitter account in order to hype his bout against “The Cleaner”.
Jericho tweeted out on his Twitter account stating that the next time he sees Omega it will be at the Tokyo Dome in two months time.
Y2J also posted a photo/poster on his official Instagram account that showcased him facing off against Omega with the Wrestle Kingdom logo.
Chris Jericho has certainly taken the pro wrestling world by storm by taking such a sudden and surprising announcement out of nowhere.
The two men will lock horns on January 4, 2018, in a match that will certainly be a dream match for wrestling fans around the world.
Personally, I am as shocked as any wrestling fan around the world is right now. With Jericho also being labelled as a WWE Superstar -- a part-timer for the company, it was truly a shocking moment to see someone jump ship from one company to another.
"The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla" will now wrestle one of the most influential wrestlers in NJPW history, Kenny Omega, at the company’s biggest show of the year.
