What’s the story?

On the 200th episode of The Ross Report, legendary wrestling commentator Jim Ross spoke with former 9-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, Chris Jericho, about his Wrestle Kingdom 12 match against Kenny Omega. Jericho said during the interview that his match against Omega is going to be the biggest match in Pro Wrestling today.

In case you didn’t know…

Earlier in the year, Chris Jericho made his return to NJPW for the first time in years at the Power Struggle event and challenged Bullet Club leader Kenny Omega to an IWGP US Championship match at Wrestle Kingdom 12. Omega further accepted the challenge and thus the match was confirmed by NJPW management within a short period of time.

At this year’s NJPW: Power Struggle show, Chris Jericho made a sneak attack on Kenny Omega and left “The Cleaner” in a bloody mess, following two Codebreakers and a shot to the head with the US Title.

The heart of the matter

During Jericho’s interaction with Jim Ross, the former WWE World Champion stated that his match against Kenny Omega is very important and he wants to put on a good match for the crowd in Tokyo. However, according to Y2J, the most important thing is the story and how the angle of the match is being built.

Additionally, Jericho claimed that this match is the biggest match in Pro Wrestling today because wrestling fans around the globe have already seen John Cena vs Brock Lesnar and John Cena vs Roman Reigns, but the fans are yet to witness anything like Alpha vs Omega, which currently has the biggest buzz.

“Tell me any other match in wrestling today, any country with any combination that has a bigger buzz than Alpha vs Omega, Jericho vs Omega. I don’t think you can do that,” said the 9-time Intercontinental champion.

What’s next?

Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega will collide at the co-main event of Wrestle Kingdom 12 at the Tokyo Dome, come January 4, 2018. This match will also determine the future of the IWGP US Heavyweight Title in a no disqualification match.

Author’s Take

Chris Jericho is absolutely right regarding this matter, there is indeed no match on the global scale that can outperform the buzz of Alpha vs Omega. We have already witnessed matches such as Kazuchika Okada vs Tetsuya Naito, or even Shinsuke Nakamura vs AJ Styles, but this will be the very first time Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega will lock horns inside a wrestling ring.
