#5 Shayna Baszler def. Mia Yim - NXT Women's Championship

Given what the Toronto faithful had already seen from Io Shirai and Candice LeRae, this may have been somewhat disappointing
Given what the Toronto faithful had already seen from Io Shirai and Candice LeRae, this may have been somewhat disappointing

While Mia Yim and Shayna Baszler are both incredible athletes, following the great contests that came before it, this one just didn't click, and it somewhat hurt the momentum of the show.

Given what the Toronto faithful had already seen from Io Shirai and Candice LeRae, this may have been somewhat disappointing, but the two worked hard to tell a great story and have a great match.

Ultimately, this one just didn't have the build to take the Championship off the Queen of Spades, and given how dominant Io Shirai was later in the show, it seems only a matter of time until they clash once again.

While Yim wasn't successful here, she showed the qualities of a main event player going forward, but she'll need to further develop her character until we finally see her on top.

#4 Street Profits def. The Undisputed Era - NXT Tag Team Championship

It wasn't as great as UE's other TakeOver matches
It wasn't as great as UE's other TakeOver matches

After their shock win at NXT Takeover XXV, the Street Profits were ready to make their first defence on the TakeOver stage but were opposed by the dominant Undisputed Era in Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish.

While this one wasn't on the level of some other Undisputed Era matches on past TakeOver's, it was still a great bout filled with big moments and some incredible false finishes.

It looked like Montez Ford was ready to tap late in the bout, but Angelo Dawkins made the save, and The Street Profits got hot to successfully defend their Championships.

The Undisputed Era want to rule over NXT with an iron fist, but this may have been their final shot at the Tag Team belts, so the future for them is uncertain, but going forward, The Street Profits can only get better.

#3 Velveteen Dream def. Pete Dunne & Roderick Strong - NXT North American Championship

Given how jam-packed the action was from the beginning, no man got to shine or stand out head and shoulders above the others
Given how jam-packed the action was from the beginning, no man got to shine or stand out head and shoulders above the others

While this match may not have been up to the lofty standards that many would expect from three such incredible performers, it was still a great bout that showcased the best of each Superstar.

Given how jam-packed the action was from the beginning, no man got to shine or stand out head and shoulders above the others, but they're all incredibly popular with the NXT Universe, and the fans ate up every second of this bout.

It looks like the issues between Dunne and Dream will continue until the next TakeOver (one that has Match of the Year written all over it), but it leaves Strong in an odd position in NXT.

Ultimately, this is one that may not have lived up to the hype, but it was still a great bout between three of NXT's best, and is definitely must-see.

#2 Io Shirai def. Candice LeRae

Many were shocked when TakeOver finally gained a second women's bout (given how many times its been passed over), and given how good it was, it likely won't be the last time.

This is also the first time we got to see Candice LeRae in singles action on a TakeOver, and opposing the dark Genius of the Sky, Mrs. Wrestling was able to show off why she's regarded as one of the best female wrestlers in the world.

From the get go, this one was heated, and both women were able to show off tremendous character work while putting in some hard-hitting offense, but it was Shirai that took complete control early.

Later on in the match, both women showed incredible fight, and the back and forth showed off why both are considered some of the best in the world. Ultimately, Shirai wasn't going to lose this match, and she finally put away the resilient LeRae for the win.

#1 Adam Cole def. Johnny Gargano - NXT Championship 2 out of 3 Falls match

Match Of The Year contender?
Match Of The Year contender?

The 2 out of 3 Falls stipulation was the perfect way to end this legendary rivalry over the NXT Championship, and like we knew they would, Johnny Wrestling and Adam Cole delivered.

From the beginning, the crowd was hot for this contest (a traditional wrestling match), giving chants of "This is Awesome" as Cole went 1-0 up on the challenger due to a DQ by Gargano.

Johnny Wrestling would then tie the match at 1-1, forcing Cole to tap after some brutal spots. Then came the third and final fall, the Chamber of Horrors, where the winner needed to win via pinfall or submission.

This was everything it needed to be to finally put this incredible rivalry to bed, as both men pulled out all the stops to win NXT gold, but after a brutal crash from the top of the cage, it was Cole who retained his coveted Championship.

This one was a masterclass in storytelling and how to build a match and a rivalry, and although we don't know what Johnny's future holds, this performance solidifies him as the best wrestler in NXT history.

Gargano and Cole just put on the NXT Match of the Year, and arguably the one of the greatest matches in WWE history, and going forward, it's safe to say that both of these men are true main event Superstars.
