Opinion: Why John Cena should face Kane at WrestleMania 34 instead of The Undertaker

John Cena is perhaps one of the greatest Superstars in WWE history. He has worked hard and has achieved everything that a mortal being could accomplish in professional wrestling. Cena gave us some of the best WrestleMania moments and delivered certain unbelievable performances on the grandest stage of the WWE. However, as of now this year his journey to WrestleMania 34 is highly uncertain.

John Cena at first competed and tried to win the Elimination Chamber match to get a title opportunity against Brock Lesnar. However, he failed to win that match and could not secure his spot. Then, he went to SmackDown Live and defeated AJ Styles to compete and win the WWE Championship at the Fastlane PPV. His aim was to win the title and defend it at WrestleMania. Here also he met the similar fate as before and could not win the match.

Cena then decided to challenge the Undertaker for a WrestleMania match. Now, we all know that the Undertaker possesses a tremendous record at WrestleMania. Out of his 25 matches, he has won 23 of them and lost only twice. Therefore, it is a dream for any wrestler to challenge the Undertaker and defeat him at WrestleMania.

On the 12 March episode of Monday Night Raw, John Cena called out the Undertaker for one final match at the WrestleMania. However, there was no response from The Deadman. The next week again Cena called him out and asked him to step out of his insecurities and comfort zone.

He repeatedly called the Undertaker a coward. Hearing all of these, Kane the Undertaker's brother (kayfabe) came out and instead of giving any definite answer to Cena's response delivered a chokeslam upon him.

Now, The Undertaker is a 52-year-old man and is perhaps the greatest wrestler ever in the world. However, having competed in 25 matches at the WrestleMania he has nothing more to prove to the wrestling fraternity.

Though Cena and Undertaker have faced each other couple of times, they have never competed in WrestleMania. But, even if this match happens, it ain't worthwhile for the WWE as well as for the fans.

The creative team of WWE seems to be in two minds whether they should make this match happen or not, as they have not yet confirmed The Undertaker's response. Instead, they sent Kane to attack John Cena. If Cena and Kane face each other at WrestleMania instead of the Undertaker it seems more justified, and here is why.

WWE would obviously make Cena compete at WrestleMania as without him the PPV can never achieve a major success. The Undertaker has not competed in any match for the past one year, and therefore to forcefully make his return for just one match does not seem appropriate.

Instead, Kane, who is a more active wrestler from the WWE roster is definitely a better choice for Cena. If Kane feuds with Cena, it can contribute to better story-lines and garner more crowd reactions.

WWE can take this opportunity to bring the devilish Kane once again. Even Kane does not have a WrestleMania match as of now, and it will be a perfect fit if these two wrestlers collide. In fact, Kane also possesses the same moves (Chokeslam and Tombstone Piledriver) as The Undertaker does. He can be equally brutal and destructive if not better than The Phenom.

Kane, in recent times, had not had great memories at WrestleMania. Even though there is not much surety about his retirement, it is quite obvious that he won't be hovering around much longer in the WWE.

Therefore, it would be highly appropriate on the part of the WWE management to give him a match which the fans can cherish and relinquish for a long time, and what better it could be if he gets to face the ultimate poster boy of the company- John Cena.

Thus, in light of the above factors, one can certainly give thumbs up to John Cena vs Kane over John Cena vs The Undertaker. It's all in the hands of the WWE management now to decide whom Cena shall face at WrestleMania.
