Opinion: Why The Undertaker's Return is Good for Drew McIntyre

WWE often gets criticized for being predictable. Well, what happened on Raw last night during the Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre match was totally unexpected. There was no prior indication to that and the moment completely caught almost everyone off guard.

In case you missed Raw, the moment being referred here is The Undertaker making his shocking return to even the odds stacked against Roman Reigns. Now, it is confirmed that the Phenom will be teaming up with the Big Dog to take on Shane McMahon and the Scottish Psychopath, Drew McIntyre at Extreme Rules.

Last time The Undertaker had a match at a pay-per-view that isn't among the big 4 (or the Network Specials that take place outside US) was at Hell in a Cell 2015. So, after last two disappointing outings, there should be a strong reason why the Deadman has risen for a non-major event. Aside from that, Taker's alliance with Reigns has raised a ton of questions as well.

There are countless theories linked to The Undertaker's return but the one that makes most sense involves the Scottish Psychopath.

Ever since Drew McIntyre returned to the main roster last year, he has been booked like a true monster heel and protected at every step. All signs point towards him challenging for the Universal Title after the summer season is over. However, the 2 clean losses against Roman Reigns have surely tainted the Scottish Psychopath's image.

Thus, McIntyre needs a strong outing to regain his credibility before he can enter the Title picture. What better way to do it than to decimate The Deadman himself?

It was rumored last year that McIntyre was among the Superstars The Undertaker had asked to have a match against at Summerslam. However, the circumstances were just not right at that time for this classic bout to take place.

Now is the right time to pull the trigger on this feud. Whether McIntyre destroys The Undertaker at Extreme Rules or that match leads to a singles clash between the two at Summerslam, it wouldn't matter much. As long as Taker is willing to make the "Chosen One" look like an absolute star, all shall be good.

After failing to capitalize on McIntyre's momentum at Money in the Bank, WWE has got another chance to do the right thing.

The Undertaker will be competing at a non-major event for the first time in nearly 4 years.
