Rebooking Survivor Series 2017

Survivor Series 2017 certainly could have been better.
Survivor Series 2017 certainly could have been better.

Survivor Series 2017 took place on November 19, 2017, in Houston, Texas. The match card included Matt Hardy vs Elias, Kalisto vs Enzo Amore for the Cruiserweight Championship, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs Breezango, IC Champion The Miz vs US Champion Baron Corbin, The Shield vs The New Day, Team Raw’s Women vs Team SmackDown Live’s Women, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs Raw Tag Team Champions The Bar, Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, WWE Champion AJ Styles vs Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, and Team Raw’s Men vs Team SmackDown Live’s Men.

While it was a good card on paper, there were several problems including the IC vs US Title match (both Baron Corbin & The Miz are heels so the crowd was not truly behind either superstar), an over-reliance on part-timers, and a sloppy women’s 5 on 5 match.

While the other matches were pretty good, they could be made better.

Kickoff Show: Cruiserweight Championship: Neville (c.) vs Kalisto

These 2 superstars have faced off in the past.
These 2 superstars have faced off in the past.

Kalisto unsuccessfully challenged Enzo Amore for the Cruiserweight Championship on the Survivor Series 2017 Kickoff Show in a boring matchup. In my fantasy booking, Neville was still Cruiserweight Champion and had never quit WWE. He would have dominantly defeated Enzo Amore at No Mercy before being challenged by Kalisto for a match at Survivor Series. These two were the most well-known cruiserweights in the Cruiserweight division.

Kalisto is a former 2-time United States Champion while Neville was once NXT Champion. They also have a bit of history since Neville unsuccessfully challenged Kalisto for the United States Championship on an episode of Smackdown in January 2016. The two wrestlers have proven chemistry and can have an excellent match on the kickoff show.

With 15-20 minutes of ring time, these two wrestlers can steal the show. The match should arguably end with Neville retaining the Cruiserweight Championship by pinning a game Kalisto with the Red Arrow. Neville could then have moved on to face other wrestlers such as Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali.

10 on 10 Tag Team Elimination Match: Team Raw (The Hardy Boys, The Bar, The Revival, Gallows & Anderson, & Titus Worldwide) vs Team SmackDown (New Day, The Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn, Breezango, Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin, & Rusev Day)

For some reason, WWE decided not to put the 10 on 10 traditional Survivor Series tag team elimination match between the best teams of Raw and SmackDown Live on the card last year.

This is strange since it was a pretty good match when it took place at Survivor Series 2016. With the Hardy Boys being Raw Team Captains and New Day being SmackDown Team Captains, it could have been a promising match. It could have been interesting to see face-offs between the New Day and The Bar, The Revival and The New Day, The New Day and The Hardy Boys, The Hardy Boys and Breezango, and The Revival & Breezango.

The match should arguably end with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn outlasting the Hardy Boys, and The Revival to be the sole survivors for Team SmackDown Live.

Current Score: 1-0 (SmackDown Live in the lead)

Champion vs Champion: Intercontinental Champion - The Miz vs United States Champion - Tye Dillinger

The Miz & Tye Dillinger have faced off at live events.
The Miz & Tye Dillinger have faced off at live events.

The Miz should have represented Monday Night Raw as Intercontinental Champion against Tye Dillinger who represented SmackDown Live. In my fantasy booking, Dillinger won the United States Championship from AJ Styles in the triple threat match at Hell in a Cell that also involved Baron Corbin.

The reason that this match would have worked so well is that The Miz is a despicable heel while Dillinger is a loveable underdog.

Dillinger could have also represented Daniel Bryan (who was not cleared to compete at the time). Because Tye Dillinger and Daniel Bryan have such similar chants, it would be easy to see Tye Dillinger as Daniel Bryan’s representative.

It would also be a great match given the fact that both superstars can certainly go in the ring. Tye Dillinger should arguably be given the victory to further his career.

Current Score: 2-0 (SmackDown Live is in the lead).

5 on 5 Elimination Tag Team Match: Team Raw (Asuka, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Mickie James, & Nia Jax) vs Team SmackDown Live (Becky Lynch, Carmella, Naomi, Natalya, & Tamina)

Image result for 5 on 5 womens elimination match

This is very similar to the last match but the difference is that Mickie James will be taking Alicia Fox’s place in the match. This way there will be less botches throughout the matchup. If Nia Jax and Tamina eliminate each other early in the match (double count out) then it is more likely that the match is more smooth.

Bayley and Becky Lynch should also last much longer than they did last year. These two trailblazers were the first women eliminated from the match and that is just unacceptable. Both women deserve to be in the final 6 at least.

The match should arguably end with Asuka outlasting every other woman in the match by eliminating Natalya first before finally eliminating Becky Lynch from the match to get the victory for Team Raw.

Current Score: 2-1 (SmackDown Live is in the lead)

Champion vs Champion: Raw Tag Team Champions Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins vs SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos

This match was supposed to happen last year at Survivor Series 2017.
This match was supposed to happen last year at Survivor Series 2017.

This match was originally scheduled for Survivor Series 2017. I honestly have no idea why WWE changed the match. No disrespect to The Bar, but this match would have been an amazing match and many fans were excited about it.

While The Bar vs The Usos was a pretty good match, this match probably would have been even better. With all four men bringing their A-game, this match could have been amazing. These four men should arguably be given 15-20 minutes as all 4 men can go through long matches without getting winded.

The match should include several false finishes, tandem offense, and pinfall breakups from both teams. The match should arguably end with Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose getting the victory for Team Raw to even up the score.

Current Score: 2-2 (The score is now tied)

Champion vs Champion Match: Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair

Image result for charlotte vs alexa bliss survivor series

This is the only match from Survivor Series last year that is not being changed. At the time, this was one of the big dream matches of the women’s division as Charlotte Flair was the top heel of Monday Night Raw’s women’s division, while Alexa Bliss was the top heel of SmackDown Live’s women’s division during the fall of 2016. When these two had their match at Survivor Series, there were quite a few botches from Alexa Bliss.

The best way to control this would be to make the match about ten minutes only. Charlotte Flair should have also arguably kicked out of the DDT. This way, Alexa Bliss would stop using the DDT as a finishing move and would use her much more impressive move Twisted Bliss to finish her opponents.

The match did have the right result as Charlotte Flair should be the one that gets the victory for SmackDown Live.

Current Score: 3-2 (SmackDown Live is in the lead)

5 on 5 Elimination Tag Team Match: Team Raw (Braun Strowman, Bray Wyatt, Jason Jordan, Roman Reigns, & Samoa Joe) vs Team SmackDown Live (Baron Corbin, Bobby Roode, Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton, & Shinsuke Nakamura)

This match was just horrible.
This match was just horrible.

The 5 on 5 Elimination Tag Team Match from last year was a complete mess. It relied too much on part-timers while the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, and Finn Balor did not have a chance to shine in the match.

Meanwhile, part-timers such as Triple H, Kurt Angle, and Shane McMahon outlasted some of WWE’s top superstars.

WWE should fill their team with full-time superstars. These 10 men were some of the top superstars of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live during the time so they definitely deserve to be a part of this match.

These 10 men can all certainly go so therefore, they definitely will have a great match. Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman should arguably be the sole survivors for Monday Night Raw by last eliminating Shinsuke Nakamura.

Current Score: 3-3 (The score is now tied)

Champion vs Champion: WWE Champion AJ Styles vs Universal Champion Demon Finn Balor

This match was one of the best matches of the year.
This match was one of the best matches of the year.

In my fantasy booking, Finn Balor defeated Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship back at SummerSlam 2017. He would then face WWE Champion AJ Styles at Survivor Series 2017. In my fantasy booking, Demon Finn Balor vs AJ Styles had never happened at TLC so it would have been a first-time ever matchup.

While AJ Styles vs Brock Lesnar was a great match at 2017, it was far too predictable because it was pretty obvious that AJ Styles would be defeated. If this match took place, it would have been less easy to predict the result of the matchup.

This was THE dream match of WWE during 2017 and if the match took place at Survivor Series 2017, it could have been one of the best PPV main events of all time. After being given 25-30 minutes of time in the ring, the match should arguably end with Finn Balor defeating AJ Styles and getting the victory for Monday Night Raw.

Final Score: 4-3 (Monday Night Raw gets the win)
