Rey Mysterio thanks Randy Orton after winning the WWE United States Championship on RAW

After a grueling battle with Brock Lesnar this Sunday at WWE Survivor Series, Rey Mysterio was back in action on Monday Night RAW. First, he outlasted Ricochet, Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton to win a Fatal 4-way no. 1 contenders match for the WWE United States Championship and then went on to wrestle AJ Styles for the title.

Although the two fought back-and-forth, it was the little aid from The Viper that helped Mysterio to gain the pinfall and win the United States Championship for the second time in his career. Randy Orton didn't join the post-match celebration with Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik, but took to Twitter to congratulate and remind the new champion of his contribution towards the cause.

Rey Mysterio: WWE United States Champion

Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles took each other to their limits when they clashed on the latest edition of WWE RAW. However, the new United States Champion can't overlook the role Randy Orton played in turning the match in his favor. Rey Mysterio eventually acknowledged The Viper's support in a recent tweet and stated that he respects his support.

Although Rey Mysterio defeated him, AJ Styles seems to have his sight set on Randy Orton as he was furious with his involvement in the title match. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops in the upcoming episode of the Red brand.
