ROH News: Cody Rhodes signs exclusive deal with Ring Of Honor

The champ is sticking around

What's the story

Cody Rhodes was one of the hottest free agents on the independent scene. But The American Nightmare has signed an exclusive domestic deal with Ring Of Honor.

In case you didn't know

Cody Rhodes isn't allowed to use his Rhodes last name since leaving WWE. However, he hasn't let that stop him from dominating the world's indie wrestling circuit since cutting ties with Vince McMahon and Company.

The Grandson Of A Plumber picked up the ROH World title and has been representing the company proudly. But he had not signed anything exclusive with ROH before this.

The heart of the matter

Cody Rhodes recently appeared on Dinner With The King where he told Jerry Lawler:

“Ring of Honor hates the fact that I genuinely remained a free agent; I did not sign a contract with them. I signed on for various dates, and I have many dates left with them. I really like Ring of Honor. But I’m not going to be exclusive anywhere. I did exclusive.”

It certainly seems like Cody has changed his mind about signing an exclusive contract because he just inked one with ROH.

The terms and length of Cody's new ROH deal haven't been made public but it's being touted as the "most generous offer in Ring Of Honor history." This deal also means Cody will be in ROH for the next few years.

Cody will still be allowed to compete internationally and ROH will be his home base in the United States. Therefore, he will still be showing up in New Japan Pro Wrestling to take part in even more amazing matches with their loaded roster.

What's next

Cody Rhodes surprised a lot of people by signing this deal. But it only solidifies how happy he is to be in ROH. Hopefully, this means Cody will be able to take part in even more outstanding matches and participate in much longer programs.

Author's take

Who knows? This deal might also include some matches with Daniel Bryan if they play their cards right.

After all, if Cody keeps throwing little jabs at the Bearded GOAT like he did at Death Before Dishonor, those two might have plenty to settle in the ring by the time Daniel Bryan finds his way back to ROH.
