Some interesting details have come out in regard to CM Punk heading to Saudi Arabia for the Night of Champions Premium Live Event. Punk is receiving massive backlash from fans following the announcement of the match.
In 2020, Punk lashed out at The Miz on social media following an episode of WWE Backstage on FOX and also took a massive shot at the company's relationship with Saudi Arabia. It has been five years since Punk posted the now-deleted tweet, and a lot has changed during this period.
CM Punk will take on John Cena in an Undisputed WWE Title match at Night of Champions 2025, in a country he verbally bashed five years ago. As per Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Punk had the pull to say no to a match in Saudi Arabia.
Meltzer said he had previously asked about Punk possibly going to Saudi Arabia and was told that he was indeed set to visit the country. This was back when Punk was taken out of the promo package for Night of Champions and replaced with Seth Rollins.
What happened between CM Punk and The Miz in 2020?
After appearing on WWE Backstage, The Miz took a light-hearted jibe at Punk on X. The former WWE Champion was beyond livid and blasted The A-Lister in a scathing response, telling him to go suck a blood money-covered d**k in Saudi Arabia. Miz was seemingly taken aback by Punk's words and didn't expect the veteran to lash out at him in such a manner.
The Miz and Punk later settled their differences when the latter showed up backstage during an episode of RAW while still working for AEW. Punk's AEW run ended in disaster when Tony Khan terminated his contract after All In 2023. Months later, The Best in the World made his big WWE return after nine long years.
