WWE Rumors: WWE will not be backing The Hardy Boyz in Impact Wrestling lawsuit

We may have to get used to The Hardyz as Team Extreme

What’s the story?

Rumours had been surfacing all week that the WWE was going to aid Matt and Jeff Hardy in the proceedings of their legal issues against Impact Wrestling, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

According to RingSideNews, the source of this news was allegedly the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, but they claim that there is nothing said or written by the Wrestling Observer that indicates that the WWE will aid The Hardy Boyz in their legal issues.

In case you didn’t know...

Matt and Jeff Hardy were signed with Impact Wrestling until February of this year until they couldn’t come to an agreement for their further association. Impact Wrestling and Anthem Sports would then issue The Hardys a cease and desist notice to prevent them from using the “Broken” gimmick.

At WrestleMania 34, The Hardys returned to the WWE and defeated Enzo and Cass, Sheamus and Cesaro, and The Club to win the Raw Tag Team Championships.

The heart of the matter

If this report is true, then the WWE will more than likely not attempt to use the Broken character for Matt and Jeff Hardy throughout their time in the WWE.

Despite all the hype and emphasis on the word “Broken,” it appears the WWE has no desire to back the Hardys in a lawsuit against Impact Wrestling.

What’s next?

The WWE may allow the Hardys to use the gimmick if the lawsuit rules in favour of them.

However, the WWE has a tendency to not use characters and gimmicks that weren’t created by them so that may be a factor in their decision to bring the Broken Universe to the WWE Universe.

Author’s take

It would be a shame if The Hardys aren’t allowed to use the Broken Gimmick in WWE after all the entertainment it has provided fans in Impact and on the independent circuit. Many fans feared that the WWE wouldn’t use the gimmick and that fear has come to pass to a certain extent.

One of the biggest hopes for The Hardys returning was a potential match with The Wyatt Family, but that feud loses meaning without the Hardy’s using the Broken gimmick. Hopefully, this issue with the character is resolved before the Hardys and The Wyatts cross paths.
