Seth Rollins and Sting update, the dialogue that happened backstage

Rollins and Sting in action at Night of Champions

– Seth Rollins and Sting went head to head for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the Night of Champions PPV event on the 20th of September at the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas. The widely anticipated match between the ‘Icon’ Sting and WWE’s hottest property Seth Rollins ended in Rollins retaining the Championship.

During the course of the match Sting seemed to be injured following which WWE released a statement that Sting sustained a neck injury during the turnbuckle powerbomb spot.

He told the WWE’s website that apart from a stiff neck and feeling banged up, he was feeling quite well. ‘Pretty Standard’ is how he described his situation and that the injury needs to be analysed further so the option is to ‘wait and see’ what happens. Sting had nothing but praise for his opponent and spoke to the WWE Website about Rollins.

On how he sees Rollins as a competition

Rollins is considered as a hard worker backstage with and one of the best technical wrestlers in the world. “I’m honored. After 30 years and working with some of the best and some of the greatest, [Rollins] is, I’m telling you, he’s got to be the best I’ve ever worked with. I mean, this guy has it. And I think he’s just scratching the surface on what he will do. I’ve never seen somebody as talented.”

This coming from Sting who has wrestled against the best and in various promotions for years has to be a cherry on top for Seth Rollins’ year. The Stinger added “There’s a lot on his plate. He’s carrying a lot, and he’s handling it. He’s proven he can do it. I’m just glad I had a chance to work with him. He’s the kind of guy who could be in there with a broomstick and make something very interesting happen, a match that people would love somehow.”

This shows how highly Sting rates Seth Rollins and cements the general view that Rollins is here to stay for a long time.

On what they spoke after the match

Sting who had to be carried out by an ambulance stated that Seth Rollins visited him as soon as he came off air. To actually wrestle an icon such as Sting and come out victorious is a big deal and that is exactly what Seth Rollins acknowledged. The man who has won three championships in his first few years had nothing but praises, apologies and childhood stories for Sting.

“Really, I can’t say enough. He poked his head in the ambulance and said, “Man, I’m so sorry. I don’t know what happened.” I said, “Seth, don’t worry about it. It’s not your fault.” And he, for 15 minutes, he said, “I just wanted to tell you what an honor it was, what a pleasure. I can’t believe I had a chance to get in the ring with you and work with you. I was you for Halloween when I was a kid.”

He was on and on about it, but man, this young guy, he doesn’t have any idea how much I appreciate being able to work with him.”
