Why Seth Rollins' walk out was the best thing to happen to the Shield

Monday Night Raw in Chicago not only had a raucous crowd but some relevant moments that can really get interesting in the coming weeks. The one standout moment was Seth Rollins ditching his teammates in the middle of another spectacular clash with the Wyatt family. This shouldn’t be looked at as a disappointment or a split. This was the best thing to happen to the interesting dynamic of this team.

You see, Dean Ambrose was always considered to be the star to watch out for. Whether it was the way he spoke or the way he wrestled or the way he just normally came across- he already had many hardcore eyes watching him. Seth Rollins too had quite a reputation. He was considered to be the best till the time he was in NXT and his wrestling skills were second to none. Roman Reigns was a mystique. Previously known as Leakee, he was the performer who didn’t have a prolific history in wrestling as Ambrose or Rollins.

Since the beginning of their run as a trio, Dean Ambrose’s mic skills have remained the best and because of that, because of that prominence of his voice, he looked like the de facto leader of the Shield. Even though the Shield has no clear leader, Ambrose’s mic skills put him on top. And in the midst of this Roman Reigns was slowly beginning to unravel his dominance.

He did not wrestle as much as Rollins in matches or spoke as much as Ambrose in promos but for him less has been more. He has been able to mesh the mystique of his character well with his limited but powerful arsenal of wrestling moves. He speaks relatively less than both Rollins and Ambrose but he gets to speak the concluding parts of any promo which is designed in a way to leave a lasting impact. And now, Reigns looks like the de facto leader.

Seth Rollins was left in the middle of it all.He is the most impressive in the ring and has been part of many great exchanges with Bryan. He is the standout performer as far as the ring goes but he has taken in a lot of offence from his opponents too. In their first match at TLC, Rollins went through the most extreme moment of the night when he was thrown into a set of tables from the top of a ladder near the ramp.

But then slowly and steadily and silently he came through the shadows of his arguing partners. Not only was he the glue to this team but he was also an unsung hero. He lasted in the Rumble match more than anyone else. He was only second to Punk in that aspect. And THE match at Elimination Chamber finally garnered him the full attention of the crowd which he so richly deserved. He was THE highlight of the match. His magnificent jumps and leaps and bumps added to and escalated the drama. And the following Raw he pulled off another one of those aerial moves and for some time saved Roman Reigns from the impending assault by Harper and Rowan.

And since then, Rollins was the one to watch out for but he still did not have that one moment that could stand the test of time. I mean, Dean Ambrose will always stand out as the mouthpiece of the Shield and Roman Reigns will be the overachiever but Rollins? What about him Sure he is the glue of the group but there should be something more defining.

And so came the night in Chicago where he left his team high and dry and though he was not happy about it,that did leave a statement. It made Rollins look much, much more important to the group and the audience. This brought Rollins to the fore like never before.

About damn time.
