SK Exclusive: Jinder Mahal is set to be pushed as a mid-card heel on SmackDown LIVE

Jinder Mahal has been in the news the past few weeks due to his physique

What’s the story?

According to our sources, Jinder Mahal is set to be pushed as a serviceable mid-card heel on SmackDown LIVE.

In case you didn’t know...

Jinder Mahal (Yuvraj Singh Dhesi) made his professional wrestling debut back in 2002 and broke into the big leagues of the WWE after making his main card debut on April 29, 2011, on SmackDown in a segment with The Great Khali and Ranjin Singh. Mahal performed for the WWE until 2014 after which he dabbled in independent wrestling for a couple of years.

The 30-year old re-signed with WWE in July of last year performing for the RAW brand, wherein he was booked as a jobber for up-and-comers such as Neville, Sami Zayn and Darren Young among others.

The heart of the matter:

On the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw, Mahal faced Finn Balor. The 6’5” wrestler put on a show against the former WWE Universal champion, getting a near-fall after tagging him with a thunderous forearm to the head.

Balor would eventually get the win nevertheless. The Canadian Superstar, of Indian origin, has also been booked in two notable segments in recent weeks. After being booked as little more than a jobber since his WWE debut, Mahal will finally get a promotion to the mid card on SmackDown LIVE.

What’s next?

Look for Mahal to appear in relatively competitive matchups on SmackDown LIVE in the weeks to come.

Author’s take:

First of all, I’d like to say that I’m as big a WWE fan as one can possibly be. But with that being said, the WWE has severely underappreciated Jinder, who is a legitimately talented performer. I mean, if they could give Dalip Singh Rana (Khali) a push as the WWE Heavyweight champion, they can most definitely sell Mahal as a mid-carder.

I, for one, am looking forward to the Punjabi Superstar’s run as a heel...(proceeds to scowl and do the weird hand gesture like Jinder Mahal).
