What's the story?

PWInsider is reporting that Abyss is not the only longtime performer to depart Impact Wrestling, but former X Division Champion Sonjay Dutt has left the company also.

In case you didn't know...

Sonjay Dutt debuted for Impact Wrestling back in the NWA:TNA days in October of 2003. Dutt wrestled mostly in the X Division and also formed an on and off tag team with Jay Lethal.

Sonjay Dutt was given a big and lengthy feud in TNA with Jay Lethal in 2008 over the love of SoCal Val, but following its conclusion, Dutt became a jobber to the stars, until his he left the company in early 2009.

Dutt returned to Impact Wrestling for some sporadic appearances in 2012 and 2013, before returning full-time in 2017, until his departure this week. Dutt was also big behind the scenes for Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling, during their first two years in business.

Sonjay Dutt had been known for years as the best X Division wrestler to have never won the X Division Championship, until he finally did in May 2017.

The heart of the matter

PWInsider is reporting [H/T SeScoops] that Sonjay Dutt has also left Impact Wrestling, along with fellow longtime Impact star Abyss. Impact Wrestling employees were told of their departures through an email sent by Impact officials.

Sonjay Dutt was a man of many roles in Impact Wrestling. He wrestled for Impact, on and off. He became a color commentator for Impact Wrestling, on and off since February, and he had been a major part of the Impact creative team ever since his return, which makes his departure an even bigger blow.

PWInsider is also reporting that like Abyss, Dutt may be bound for WWE. PWInsider have described both Sonjay Dutt and Abyss leaving Impact as leaving for "great opportunities'' that both have been offered.

What's next?

It is very likely that if Sonjay Dutt has signed with WWE, he will likely take on a creative or producers role with the company.

Although it is certainly not impossible that he also may join NXT or the Cruiserweight division as an active talent.
