The biggest winners and losers from last night's Raw (May 7)

Seth Rollins Raw May 7
Just how on fire is this guy?

Last night's Raw felt strange in that it simultaneously felt like filler that wasn't really filler. We got served up some Money in the Bank qualifying matches as well as quality wrestling. Picking up the pieces from an abominable Backlash won't be easy, but the red brand made a fine enough start last night.

Winner: Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman still feels like he's in a holding pattern, but he put some wind in his sails last night with a victory over Kevin Owens. As a result, he qualified for the Money in the Bank ladder match. Seeing him create carnage there is going to be fun and fans will thus be more invested in him during the build.

Aside from that terribly-scripted promo about the tree house, Braun Strowman had a good night.

Loser: Baron Corbin

Sure, Baron Corbin got his win back from last week, but being on the 50/50 wheel with No Way Jose of all people, while teaming with The Revival against afterthoughts Titus Worldwide, isn't the way to book somebody like a star.

So that raises the question - is Baron Corbin really seen as a star or is that chatter just hot air? Because so far, it looks like the chatter is hot air.

Winner: Ember Moon

Ember Moon scored a much-needed signature win on the main roster last night, punching her ticket to Money in the Bank. She'll certainly make an exciting addition to the match. Might we see an Eclipse spot off a ladder?

While she's unlikely to win, this match could be Ember Moon's breakout moment on the main roster.

Losers: Sasha Banks and Bayley

So it looks like this angle is going to conclude with a whimper. That's the only way we can judge it right now. After being ganged up on by the Riott Squad, Bayley came out to help Sasha Banks. Will that be it? Will their beef be squashed just because of that?

Either way, both stars are directionless.

Loser: Chad Gable

Some thought that Gable's surprising win over Jinder Mahal would lead to a bigger push for him, but 50/50 booking roared last night, and Mahal got his win back. Unlikely to even get into a qualifying match for Money in the Bank now, Chad Gable's shock momentum instantly dissipated.

Winners: Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler

McIntyre and Ziggler are on a role. They destroyed Heath Slater and Rhyno, which isn't unusual, but it means that the two must be closer to challenging for the tag team titles. Where they are in the race compared to the Authors of Pain is still an open question, but they're quickly rising, and Drew McIntyre looks every bit the part.

Where McIntyre's destination is remains to be seen, but his future looks bright. Obviously, his 3MB days are far behind him, which he signaled with a Claymore to his former partner.

Losers: Bobby Roode and Elias

Bobby Roode is terribly miscast as a babyface. Elias could be doing so many more interesting things than feuding with Bobby Roode. While last night's match was fine, it felt like a waste of time, with both men feeling less exciting than they felt going in. Time to move on.

Bobby Roode signaled his Money in the Bank intentions, so let's hope that's the end of it.

Winner: Seth Rollins

You know you're red hot when you give Mojo Rawley his best match ever and make it the match of the night to boot. That's how hot Seth Rollins is right now.

Seth Rollins continued to prove he's Raw's MVP of 2018 so far. Expecting Jason Jordan or even Dean Ambrose to return to confront him last night, no one was thrilled when they got Mojo Rawley instead. After the match was over, everyone was pumped.

Seth Rollins is the most must-see attraction on Raw right now, even overtaking Braun Strowman. He's Raw's headliner in all but name.

Loser: Roman Reigns

The Roman Reigns push has reached tragicomedy levels at this point. It's not even offputting to see the push fail anymore, it's rather comedic. Fans detest Roman Reigns so much that Finn Balor and Sami Zayn's double team of him received some of the most thunderous ovations of the night.

That wasn't the worst part for Roman Reigns, however.

Such is the hatred for Reigns that fans enthusiastically cheered Jinder Mahal of all people for costing him the match and an opportunity to go to Money in the Bank. WWE isn't totally off-base for thinking that if one heel can get Roman Reigns cheered, it's Jinder Mahal, but the early results of that experiment don't bode well for their plans.

Winner: Finn Balor

Finn Balor's addition to the Money in the Bank ladder match was the right call. His high-flying style is tailor-made for such matches. He probably doesn't stand much of a chance of winning, but his presence will enhance the match and give him something to do for the next six weeks.
