Winner: Aleister Black

Finally, some progress for Aleister Black's character. It looks like the random squash matches are gone.

Before having this rematch with Erick Rowan, he was attacked backstage by The O.C. Nevertheless, he emerged from that beating and still defeated Rowan in the subsequent match, looking like a major star in the process. This is the kind of stuff that gets babyfaces over as legitimate fighters. We don't see it often enough in today's WWE.

The next step up the ladder is clear, because Aleister Black will have a match with AJ Styles next week. If this manages to become an extended rivalry, Aleister Black might just find himself stepping into the ring with AJ Styles in a WrestleMania singles match. That would be an incredible promotion and opportunity for the former NXT Champion.

We still have to see how it all goes, but Black's trajectory changed last night. Paul Heyman is clearly high on him. Now we need to see what he has in mind for the Dutch Destroyer in the next crucial month or so.
