The biggest winners and losers of last night's SmackDown Live (July 30th, 2019)

At least it isn't a title match.

Loser: Shinsuke Nakamura

Look at that! A champion loses in a non-title match!

This is again the kind of formulaic nonsense that WWE uses to undercut itself so spectacularly. Routinely, it makes every title but the two world titles mean little because the champions lose all the time.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Ali looks like it will be the Intercontinental Championship match at SummerSlam, which should be a good one, but lazy builds like this add nothing to the potential excitement of such a match.

Loser: AJ Styles

This was a great match. Unfortunately, even with all the chaos at ringside, AJ Styles lost in it, just ahead of his big match with Ricochet at SummerSlam.

Protecting the WWE Champion would take priority, but it does make you question the wisdom of this match happening at all, no matter how much of a treat it was to see it on TV.

Not to mention that it's more of the unwanted"wild card" rule.

If nothing else, at least Randy Orton could have inserted himself into the chaos and made the match come to a no-contest with a sadistic attack like we loved seeing so much at this time last year.
