From the WWE Rumor Mill: The Undertaker plays down talks surrounding his WWE return

Undertaker's return has still not been confirmed by WWE

Undertaker's return has still not been confirmed by WWE

What's the story?

The Undertaker has wrestled at every WrestleMania over the past 17 years and it seems that given the hint John Cena recently dropped about their upcoming match, he could be returning once again to wrestle this year.

Despite this, Undertaker himself seems to be downplaying his chances of returning.

In case you didn't know...

The Phenom seemingly walked away from WWE following last year's WrestleMania when he lost his main event match to Roman Reigns.

This was only the second loss that Undertaker had recorded on the Grandest Stage of Them All and it seemed like the perfect way for him to finally end what had been a legendary career.

The Deadman returned to the company back in January as part of Raw's 25th Anniversary where he cut quite a confusing promo that hinted at retirement since it was thought that he may not have been able to return at that point.

Cena recently talked about a match with The Undertaker on the 26th February 2018 edition of Raw and it seems that the seeds have now been planted for a return following this year's Fastlane event next weekend.

The heart of the matter

Undertaker attended a rally for Kane's mayoral campaign recently and the former World Champion was asked about a WWE return.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson talked about this exchange recently and stated that it seems that The Deadman is downplaying a WWE return. (Transcript via Ringsidenews.com)

"Yesterday he did a signing in Knox County Tennessee with Kane to help promote Glenn Jacobs for mayor. Apparently, Kane and The Undertaker are close. There are some fans asking him about returning and why he could very well have been working them. He kind of gave the impression of "don't hold your breath, don't wait for that one," but we will see. If I was The Undertaker and I was returning certainly I would want to keep the mystique and aura going."

Undertaker hasn't been seen on WWE TV since January, but there have been training videos of him shared online which show that he is preparing for a return.

Many fans are now convinced that The Undertaker will be part of proceedings on April 8th because of the build from Cena earlier this week.

What's next?

The Undertaker isn't expected to return to the company until after this year's Fastlane where the build-up to his match with Cena is expected to begin.

Author's take

Much like Mike says, 90% of wrestling is about the story, Undertaker isn't going to give the story away by telling fans that he is definitely returning.

He is playing it down so that it's more of a shock when it does return, which is exactly what the company want. Hopefully, this is Undertaker's final bow and WWE book it the way he deserves to go out.
