What’s the story?

Current Smackdown Live Tag Team Champions Jimmy and Jey Uso—collectively known as The Usos—recently spoke with the Pensacola News Journal about their streak of not making it to the main card of WWE’s biggest annual event, that is, WrestleMania.

In case you didn’t know…

The Usos made their WrestleMania debut back in 2012 at WrestleMania 28, when they competed in a triple threat tag team match for the WWE Tag Team Championship, on the pre-show of the event.

The following year at WrestleMania 29, The Usos were completely left out of the WrestleMania card.

However, at WrestleMania 30 in 2014, they were once again forced to compete on the pre-show of the card as they picked up their first win at the Grandest Stage Of Them All.

They successfully defended the tag team titles in a four-way match also involving Los Matadores, The Real Americans, and RybAxel.

The following year at WrestleMania 31, The Usos were once again part of the pre-show in yet another four-way tag team match and in 2015, they picked up a vital win over The Dudley Boyz at ‘Mania 32, before eventually once again missing out on the WrestleMania 33 card.

The heart of the matter

While speaking with Pensacola News Journal, The Usos spoke about a host of topics and below are some of the highlights from the interview:

On finally making it to the main card of WrestleMania:

Jey started off by stating that he remains confident of the fact that The Usos are indeed going to make it to the WrestleMania 34 card, later next month in New Orleans. He also claimed that if for some reason they’re not on the main card, then the WWE Universe will not be getting their money’s worth.

"I don't think it could happen, it's gonna happen. Me and my bro keep saying, 'This is the year.' And if for some reason we're not on the main card, we're doing the people wrong, man."

Jimmy Uso noted, this year is by far one of the hottest years in The Usos’ wrestling career. However, he is very much aware of the fact that WrestleMania changes by the hour and by the minute, so he’s currently a bit nervous about making it to the WrestleMania 34 card this year.

"This year is probably hands down one of our hottest years. WrestleMania changes by the hour, by the minute, so I'm nervous about it."

On why their heel turn was successful:

Jey stated that The Usos' heel run would’ve never worked in the first place if their previous babyface phase didn’t go as long as it did.

Additionally, he claimed that the heel change just made everything feel more real and he and his brother now get to be themselves and have the ball in their court when it comes to creative decisions.

"The heel change would have never worked if that baby face phase didn't go as long as it did. The heel change just made it more real. We get to be us, we could talk the way we want to, dress the way we want to, it was like the ball was in our court now. And it took a lot of hard work to finally get the ball, you feel me?"

What’s next?

As of right now, it seems like The Usos will defend their Smackdown Live Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 34 against The Bludgeon Brothers and The New Day in a three-way match in New Orleans, come April 8, 2018.

Author’s Take

The Usos, in my opinion, are currently at the top of their game in the WWE and I certainly hope that the duo get to make it to the WrestleMania 34 card after all.
