John Cena made his WWE TV debut just 4 days after the 2002 edition of King of the Ring, which was won by a young Brock Lesnar. After that WWE hosted 4 King of the Ring events, with Cena participating in none of them. Thought the King of the Ring tournament lost its prestige after the 2002 edition, rumors have it that WWE is planning to bring it back, restoring it back to its former prestige.

The King of the Ring tournament began in 1985. Many legends like Bret Hart, The Macho man Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Edge, and Kurt Angle have their names etched in the history books as King of the Ring winners. Cena would like to add his name to this list.
