European championship was quite similar to intercontinental or United States championship. It was a prominent title during the attitude era and was crucial for completing a grand slam during those periods.

Both of these titles were retired within a span of one month when Rob Van Dam unified his intercontinental championship with these titles. John Cena had only two months to capture any of these titles, but he could not.
