December 13 might well be described as Tag team title day – There have been multiple Tag team title changes on this day throughout the years.
Read on to see how Shawn Michaels and Triple H won their only tag titles as a team and how the forgotten tag team of John Morrison and The Miz started their World tag team title reign.
Also, Morrison lost the tag team titles on the same day with his MNM partner Joey Mercury as well, which left their split-legging specialist valet Melina on the verge of tears. In addition to WWE tag team title changes, WCW saw the Outsiders win the WCW World tag team titles from Bret Hart and Goldberg on December 16th 2000.
#1 D-X win their only WWE Unified Tag team titles – 13th December 2009
Despite their illustrious history, the original DX of Shawn Michaels and Triple H had never won the WWE tag team titles – till 2009, that is. The WWE Unified tag team titles would main-event TLC 2009 and D-X would take on the duo of Chris Jericho and The Big Show for the titles.
Jeri-Show had been on a major roll and had brought prestige back to the titles with their 140-day reign as Champions, but DX would be the ones to dethrone them. A superkick from Michaels would send Jericho and Show to the outside and D-X would win the TLC match to capture the titles.
This led to an underwhelming run as champions by the duo which would be ended by The Big Show, this time teaming up with the Miz.
#2 The Miz & Morrison win the World Tag team titles – 13th December 2008
The Miz and John Morrison truly made their mark in the WWE after winning the WWE tag team titles in 2008 and bringing them to ECW. Morrison, who had been the ECW Champion and multiple tag team Champion previously with Joey Mercury would find the perfect foil in The Miz and the duo would be voted WWE tag team of the year in ‘08.
In addition to hosting the widely popular ‘Dirtsheet’, the duo even had a short feud with D-X during the time. They would win their second tag team title in the company at a house show in Ontario by defeating CM Punk and Kofi Kingston on December 13th, 2008.
They would lose the title to the WWE tag team champions Carlito and Primo at Wrestlemania 25 in a unification match.
#3 Batista and Mysterio dethrone MNM
A three-time WWE tag team, MNM comprising of Johny Nitro aka John Morrison and Joey Mercury, alongside Melina made the tag team division on SmackDown popular again during the mid-2000s.
Their paparazzi entrance routine along with Melina's split-legged entrance made them must-watch on the show and they put on exciting matches with multiple tag teams on SmackDown.
The 2005 PWI tag team of the year were in their second run as Champions when they came up against the World Heavyweight Champion Batista and Rey Mysterio in a title match on the 13th December 2005 edition of SmackDown.
Batista and Mysterio would win the title to hype their upcoming PPV match against the World tag team Champions Kane and the Big Show. MNM would regain the title the next week on SmackDown to start their final reign which would be ended by Paul London and Brian Kendrick.
