The New Age Outlaws were the most popular tag team in the WWE during the late 90s and while Road Dogg and Billy Gunn had five tag team title reigns, they also dabbled in singles wrestling occasionally.

On the December 21, 1998 episode of Raw, Road Dogg took on the Hardcore champion Big Boss Man for the title. Despite being completely dominated by the Bossman, Road Dogg would pull off the unlikely victory when Mankind interfered to take out the Champion.

Road Dogg would hold on to the title for two months before vacating it.
