For every hero, there is a villain. In Chicago, CM Punk was the hero and whoever came against him automatically became the villain. John Cena had the dubious honor to defend his WWE Championship against CM Punk, who has recently made promos about the wrongs in WWE. CM Punk made his entrance first, to one of the loudest pops in WWE history. The champion, however, was greeted with an enormous scale of boos.

Whenever Punk and Cena traded blows, the crowd greeted Punk with cheers and Cena was greeted with equally strong boos. Cena is no stranger to hostile crowd reactions. In his match against Rob Van Dam at ECW One night stand in 2006, the entire Hammerstein ballroom booed the champion in unison.
