Top 5 most underwhelming champions in WWE at the moment

Is Roman Reigns the most irrelevant Champion in WWE right now?
Is Roman Reigns the most irrelevant Champion in WWE right now?

Not every WWE champion is booked the same.

In fact, while champions like Roman Reigns, AJ Styles and Ronda Rousey seem unbeatable, there are other champions throughout WWE who don't receive the same type of booking. Some champions are booked to lose regularly or are booked in matches that do nothing to make their championship reign interesting

Beyond that, WWE also has the problem of completely forgetting that certain title pictures or feuds exist, which only makes the situation even worse and makes fans angry. With that being said and WWE being known to do this in quite a few championship pictures, who are the worst of the worst in that regard?

In the end, that answer depends on a fan's opinion, but here are five superstars that fit the criteria that was listed above in one way or another. If another reason comes up during a pick, it will be explained as best as possible. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and tell us who you think the most underwhelming champion currently is.

#5 Raw tag team titles: Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre

What have Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre really done as Raw tag team champions?
What have Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre really done as Raw tag team champions?

Not only was Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre's tag team title reign a fluke from the very start, especially since they beat The Revival to get the opportunity at the belts, the team have also done next to nothing with the belts. Sure, they have defended it a few times and had a good match with The Shield here and there, but beyond that, nothing.

If nothing else, Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre are above the tag team belts at this point, and need to drop the titles as soon as possible. Not only will doing so allow the tag team title picture to open up again, it also could serve as the thing that split up McIntyre and Ziggler, which is what WWE needs as well.

In the end, not defending the tag team titles is only going to make them less and less relevant, which can't be what WWE wants with one of their most historic belts. Furthermore, there are so many talented and deserving tag teams out there that deserve a shot at the titles, and Drew and Dolph are only holding them back .

#4 Shinsuke Nakamura: United States Champion

What happened to Shinsuke Nakamura making the United States title great again?
What happened to Shinsuke Nakamura making the United States title great again?

Lets be honest here.

There is absolutely nothing happening in the United States title picture right now, and while WWE might change that in the future, they currently seem to just want it to be something that Shinsuke Nakamura carries around. Not only is that a huge disservice to the fans that want to see more, it's also far less than what the legendary title deserves.

Unfortunately for The WWE Universe, WWE continues to turn the United States title into an afterthought, and it hasn't even been defended much lately. In fact, WWE seemed like they would originally do a Nakamura versus Randy Orton for the title, but The Viper turned his attention to Jeff Hardy for one reason or nothing.

With that being said, it's absolutely devastating what WWE has done to a title that they claimed to want to make great again. Furthermore, the title run doesn't help Nakamura at all, especially since he hardly defends it, and the only way to get momentum back behind the title is to probably get it off of Nakamura as soon as possible.

#3 Buddy Murphy: Crusierweight title

What was the point of Buddy Murphy winning the title if WWE doesn't do anything with him?
What was the point of Buddy Murphy winning the title if WWE doesn't do anything with him?

Who cares about the Crusierweight title anymore?

While that might sound a little mean and dismissive, the title hasn't been nearly as popular since their superstars were removed from the Monday Night Raw roster last year. Of course that's not necessarily the roster's fault, especially since the company had to restructure 205 Live after The Enzo Amore incident, but one has to wonder why they went with taking the competitors off Raw.

Not only did that instantly turn 205 Live into a niche product on The WWE Network, it basically doomed every superstar on the roster into irrelevancy. In fact, the crusierweight title isn't even defended very often, and when it is, it's usually not even noticed by a majority of the WWE Universe.

For that reason and more, Buddy Murphy is one of the worst booked champions in WWE right now. In the end, it's tragic what WWE is doing to Murphy and the rest of The 205 Live roster and they deserve a lot more exposure than what is currently being given to them right now.

Think about it! The Crusierweight title used to be good enough to main event Monday Night Raw. It was also a point of fast paced action that fans both at home and the arena seemed to enjoy. If nothing else, WWE needs to bring the Crusierweight division back on Monday Night Raw, and stop making them a separate entity.

#2 Becky Lynch: SmackDown Live Women's champion

Are you disappointed in how WWE has booked Becky Lynch?
Are you disappointed in how WWE has booked Becky Lynch?

Believe it or not, the problem with Becky Lynch's title reign has nothing to do with who is champion, but how the champion is being presented to the audience. Unfortunately for Becky Lynch, WWE continues to force her to play the villain in her storyline with Charlotte Flair, which fans are still rejecting.

With that in mind, WWE needs to stop trying to make Lynch out to be the villain and shift her character back towards a friend with legitimate gripes after being burned by a friend. At least this way WWE can get back to focusing on the intensity of the feud, and not on making Lynch out to be the bad person.

In the end, the fans are going to keep rejecting this storyline if WWE's bad booking of Lynch continues, and it's definitely going to hurt the overall title picture as well. Beyond all that, it's a huge disservice to Lynch to try to paint her as the bad person when fans so badly want to embrace her new tweener role.

#1 Roman Reigns: Universal title

Is Roman Reigns the most poorly booked champion in WWE right now?
Is Roman Reigns the most poorly booked champion in WWE right now?

Does this surprise anyone?

Although WWE has tried for months and months to push Roman Reigns down fans' throats and assert him as the new top guy, it seems like WWE is giving up on the idea altogether. In fact, beyond a match against Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel, WWE hasn't done much with the Universal title at all.

Furthermore, WWE has chosen to put their focus on Dean Ambrose turning on The Shield, which has made Roman Reigns about as irrelevant as the title he is currently holding. With that being said, WWE needs to switch the focus back to Roman Reigns and the Universal title, or risk devaluing it in the same way Brock Lesnar did.

In the end, WWE spent a lot of time building Roman Reigns up as a fighting champion, and it really derailed his character when Baron Corbin decided not to allow him defend the title. The move also hurt the Universal title which the WWE Universe has been iffy about ever since Reigns won it at SummerSlam.
