Top 5 promo moments where the wrestlers had the crowd in the palm of their hands

When one defines a wrestler, one of the main things that come to mind is their ability to control the crowd, their ability to get a desired reaction from the crowd. In simple words this is called having the crowd in the palm of your hands. All you need is a wrestler who finds the perfect moment to execute something that will make the audience do as he wants. Here are five moments of wrestlers doing exactly that.

5. The one that followed Angle everywhere

The feud between Edge and Kurt Angle is relevant for both superstars. Not only does it happen in Edge’s initial run as a singles performer, it also left an indelible mark in Kurt Angle’s WWE career.

Though people were faintly using the ‘You Suck’ chants, Edge took the opportunity to make the chants more prevalent. He made the audience sing the words in tune with Angle’s theme song and the rest is history.

The chants have varied in later years. When the audience liked his performance they would sometimes chant ‘You Rock’ and once in England the crowd decided to chant an explicit that rhymes with suck. So there are these two extremes.

4. The one that The Rock Started

Attitude Era Rock was one wrestler who could have made an arena go berserk everytime he took a microphone. Back then, being able to go one on one on the mic with The Great One was like winning a Championship title.

This particular moment, he was drafted by the epitome of evil, Mr. McMahon to Smackdown and on his last night on Raw, The Rock decided to go out with a bang. He led the Philadelphia crowd to uniquely formed version of a much used chant in the Attitude Era. The moment begins at 7.10. But I recommend you watch the entire promo in its entirety just because it’s The Rock. In THE Attitude Era. The Rock was quite a symphony master here.

3. The One that will live forever

The What Chants are thanks to one man. When the audience use it for any other wrestler, it is precisely done because either the wrestler has gone off to a boring tangent in his promo or to just plain irritate them (like Angle). But when it’s used for Stone Cold, it has a life of its own. It’s his trademark way of giving a promo and he just had to change the tone of his delivery to get them going.

In this video, begin at about 5.20 and see the What chants going full throttle. Such is the charisma of the man that he was never made fun of for wearing those short shorts.

Note: Charisma can make people not care about short shorts or skinny jeans!

2. The One that is probably going to live forever

Daniel Bryan may not be a beast on the microphone but it’s not his wrestling moves that have set him apart and a mile ahead of everyone else in the WWE. It is that one word that might just stand the test of time and that just can go on to sweep Wrestlemania 30.

Here, he is the symphony master leading the Rhode Island crowd to varied tones of ‘Yes’

1. The One that WWE took control of

What is the one prominent example of fans going against WWE’s desired actions. The WWE wants you to cheer John Cena but some of them just won’t. Enter the ‘Cena Sucks’ chant that just got stronger and stronger and ECW One Night Stand just showed that community of detractors that can no longer be ignored. Then the WWE did something amazing, they acknowledged it amd made Cena look like the first wrestler to ever get such a polarizing reaction.

This was made clear when Cena led an arena do the ‘Let’s Go Cena’ and ‘Cena sucks’ chant simultaneously in his seemingly fake farewell speech.
