Top 5 WWE superstars who need a character change

Chevy

The WWE is full of colourful characters that the WWE Universe watches week after week. Some characters work and become very successful. Others cause fans everywhere to do a facepalm upon their arrival to the ring.

Here’s the look at the top five WWE superstars that are in definite need of a new gimmick before fans tire of the superstar, and become uninterested in the character completely.

5. Brad Maddox: The former NXT superstar started as a rogue referee at Hell in a Cell, an odious ode to the then popular NFL referee lockout predicament.

When the NFL did reach an agreement with their veteran referees, the storyline was dropped and replaced with Maddox being fame hungry and wanting a stop on the main roster of the WWE. That failed instantly as Maddox lost in multiple one-sided bouts and eventually became Vickie Guerrio’s lackey after a mini storyline with The Shield and Paul Heyman.

The time has come for Maddox to step in the ring or leave the WWE. His current role of making stale jokes and looking goofy backstage is becoming tiring, and act as some of the least interesting moments of Monday Night Raw.

The faster they put Maddox in the ring again the better it will be for his career. Even throw in a manager or a tag team partner; just do something before this once promising, rising star burns out completely.

4. Brodus Clay: Is anyone else tired of being told to call Brodus Clay’s mother? I am in no way saying Brodus clay is capable of great things in the WWE, I am however saying he is capable of better than being a part of a disco dancing tag team dubbed Tons of Funk.

Brodus Clay

Clay will most likely never be a main event competitor in the WWE , especially since the only thing keeping him on television is Naomi and Cameron dancing around himself and Tensai at the end of matches.

If Clay is to continue his run in the WWE, he will need to look more menacing and less ridiculous in his matches. Big menacing men have a way of getting to the top and sometimes even having brief runs with the title. His options are limited, but if he drops the goofy dancing and takes on a more believable role as a villain, at least one title run would be possible.

3. Cody Rhodes: The once promising member of Randy Orton‘s group, The Legacy, has essentially become nothing more than Damien Sandow’s crony, helping making feuds more personal between Sandow and his opponents.

Rhodes can’t even succeed in building sufficient heat with the WWE Universe. His only chance to revive his career is go baby face and leave Sandow’s shadow once and for all. Of course, winning the Money in the Bank Ladder match would help him do just that, but we all know that isn’t going to happen.

2. Heath Slater: In all honesty, 3MB is probably one of the worst gimmick groups in the WWE today. The group is mostly used for squash matches or even for comic relief.

If Heath ever wants to put himself back in any championship conversation, he needs to drop the goofy 3MB gimmick and go back into singles competition. The group can’t sing, they obviously can’t wrestle, and they even air guitar quite idiotically before and after their matches.

Although he has only two tag team title runs to his credit in his career in the WWE , Slater is at least capable of United States title gold. Unfortunately, that won’t be possible as long as he breaks apart of this mediocre rock group.

1. John Cena: The WWE universe has been clamoring for a John Cena heel run for years now.

John Cena

His early days in the WWE made for some of the greatest moments in WWE history. Once dubbed the Dr. of Thuganomics, Cena is now the poster boy for the company. His once great pre-match battles have been reduced to kiddy joke promos that prompt many fans into Cena s*** chants throughout the arena.

Cena as a heel would definitely serve as a interesting storyline to watch week in and week out. With the WWE currently in its PG era, and family oriented sponsors paying good money for a baby face Cena, it seems like the idea of Cena as heel is nothing more than a dream the WWE Universe will never see come to fruition.

The battle raps that once had fans out of their seats cheering will remain a distant memory.
